Some of the criteria that you all have come up with, for being a one hit wonder is nuts,(they have not heard the track played on the radio, personal preference, etc). People are calling, Bobby Caldwell, Biz Markie, and The Tom Tom, Club, one hit wonders. They have been around for years and they have had hits after the one's that placed them on the charts to begin with. For me some one hit wonders, would be, Wild Cherry, Rockwell, Starbuck and the Starland Vocal band. This is because they had that one song that brought them from underground to popularity, then never heard from again. I don't get it.

The problem is that time clouds memories. For instance, of the acts you listed, 2 of them had other top-40 hits (Rockwell's "Obscene Phone Caller" #35, Starbuck's "Everybody Be Dancin'" #38) and Wild Cherry just barely missed ("Baby Don't You Know" #41 R&B, #43 Pop).

That isn't even his biggest hit in the US. This one went all the way to #1:

Frankie Goes to Hollywood only had one hit in the US, but they had plenty in the UK. This one followed "Relax" straight to #1:

You place "The System", as "One Hit Wonders"? The follow up to "Don't Disturb This Groove", "Nighttime Lover", went to number 7 on the Billboard charts.

Okay Bobby Caldwell "What you won't do for love" was a TOP 20 one hit wonder song, regardless of other popular songs he had out. We are talking about "One hit wonder hits".

Here are others
William De vaughn- be thankful for what you've got (original)

Sugar Hill Gang - Rapper's Delight 1/2

Katrina and the Waves- Walking on Sunshine

Mary Jane Girls- In my house- Top 20 one hit wonder song!

So because you don't remember hearing it, means that it doesn't exist? That's crazy!! So, I suppose, "You're In My System", didn't exist either.

I did'nt say that it did'nt exist,I said that I don't remember ever hearing that song, therefore I believed them to be "One Hit Wonders". Most likely I never heard it because it wasn't as popular as "Don't Disturb This Groove" or I did,and just forgot about it because I did'nt like it as much as the other. shrug

hmmm That surprises me. That song was all over the radio back then. Bobby Brown was red hot at that point and his cameo was a lot of the reason it went to #1.

This is the reasoning I am talking about, because one can't remember it, then it doesn't exist.

This and that version of "It takes two",(to make a thing go right), by the Cover Girls are two records that are totally different from their originals. You might argue that "The Cover Girls" song is totally different from the Rob Base song...But, their song has parts if his song.

Billy Paul was angry with the way his career was handled. In 1972,he was riding high with "Me And Mrs.Jones" but he was disappointed that Gamble and Huff chose "Am I Black Enough For You?" as the follow-up single. The song is controversial and many radio stations refused to play it.Not surprisingly, the song flopped.Billy was never able to score a big hit after that.
