Music that hits too close to home.

Errant was discussing how listening to Morrissey for more than a few moments was difficult. I don't paraphrase well, so here's the quote:

"I think part of the problem is that I can identify with his personality and what he sings about too well and I don't really want to. if you know what I mean?"

And that struck a chord with me, that there can be music out there that not is not only easy to empathise with, but regrettably so.

Robert Smith is like that for me. I adore the Cure, but too much of it at once makes me feel like I'm naked in a crowded arena (on a cold day), or rather, like an open wound.

Can you relate?

I know exactly what you mean.

Even though most people seem to love "I Love U but I Don't Trust U Anymore" - I "can't" listen to it. ...Another one - which seems kinda silly now but whatever - is ...I Miss You by Klymaxx. It was a high school heartbreak song.
We all want the stuff that's found in our wildest dreams.

Before I came out, I could NOT listen to "Reflection" by Christina Aguilera. I swear to God I thought she was talking to me:

Look at me
You may think you see
Who I really am
But youll never know me
Every day, is as if I play apart
Now I see
If I wear a mask
I can fool the world
But I can not fool
My heart
Who is that girl I see
Staring straight back at me?
When will my reflection show
Who I am inside?
I am now
In a world where I have to
Hide my heart
And what I believe in
But somehow
I will show the world
Whats inside my heart
And be loved for who I am
Who is that girl I see
Staring straight back at me?
Why is my reflection
Someone I dont know?
Must I pretend that im
Someone else for all time?
When will my reflection show
Who I am inside?
Theres a heart that must
Be free to fly
That burns with a need
To know the reason why
Why must we all conceal
What we think
How we feel
Must there be a secret me
Im forced to hide?
I wont pretend that im
Someone else
For all time
When will my reflections show
Who I am inside?
When will my reflections show
Who I am inside?

My example of this is Janet Jackson's Velvet Rope Album. Just too close to home for me. And I swear the song 'You' off of that album was ripped from my heart.
I am convinced Beyonce's career would not be where it is, if she had dark skin.
