To the Old-School Heads: Had to share...

My sister bought my Granny's house. She's slowly throwing everything out!
Including this: eek

It has AM/FM receiver, 8-track tape-deck, and a turntable that plays at 78-speed.

Naturally, I had it brought here to add to my music room. It needs some work, but I love it! I've wanted it since I was a kid. touched

(Sorry about the graininess- I took them on my cellphone because my camera battery is dead.)

Your lies, they cut me.
Now your words don't mean a thing.
I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..."

Absolutely! Televisions back then were furniture also, and weighed a ton, lol. I seem to remember these old stereos having some serious BASS to them also, to rival many of today's sub-woofers, lol. Your sister would have been nuts to throw this out. That stereo is a legitimate antique (seriously). I still have a stack of 45's from back in the day that I will NEVER throw away. Bet they'd sound good on that "new" stereo of yours too!

lol Don't be mad, lol. You're in good company - cause that receiver is looking ALL TOO familiar to me, lol (and beautiful). In fact, isn't that the spindle for your 45's attached in it's holder to the left of your turntable?!? nod ...uh huh... I bet if that stereo could talk, it would have some stories to tell, cause I know it's seen it's share of parties, lol.

lol Y'all are takin' me back....

Ah, Yes!!! The spindle... lol

That reminds me of the separate yellow 45 adapter/insert;

some people called them Triskelions, a reference to a similar shaped disc in a Star Trek episode...

Someone on Amazon wisely referred to them as a generational differentiators, lol

I can see future civilizations diggin' these up, and goin, "?WTF?".... lol

I love it. My mother used to have one and I begged her to take it with her when we moved back in 1991. I'd give anything to have it back now. That thing could thump and like you have said, it was an actual piece of furniture. And regardless of what people say these days about new technology being better because things are in a small package nowadays, what they don't tell you is the new stereos don't thump as hard and loud as those big console stereos. Bigger is always better....just like something else I can think of. lol

My mother's best friend had a console stereo that I really loved. It stood around four or five feet tall and resembled a juke box. At the bottom were flashing disco lights and about midways up, was the radio, turntable, and 8 track player. Behind that, was a mirror, and at the top of it, were three miniature disco balls that spun and put little circles all over the walls. Hell, I can't even find a picture of one of those stereos on the internet nowadays.
