I have 2 copies of Invincible. Of all of MJ's albums, this one has got the fewest listens. Its his only hit and miss album IMO.

This CD is ridiculous banging and despite the mixed feelings on it, everyone I have ever played it to says "Holy sh*t, THAT'S Michael Jackson" (and they say it in a good way because the music is great and they've bought the media hype that he just couldn't cut it anymore. Even in 2009 people hearing it for the first time think its a fresh album).

Unbreakable
Heartbreaker
Invincible
Heaven Can Wait
Break Of Dawn
You Rock My World
Butterflies
Whatever Happens

are all happening tracks.

Cry
Don't Walk Away
You Are My Life
Privacy
2000 Watts
Speechless

all grew on me.

Lost Children and Threatened are the only tracks I don't listen to regularly, but I don't think they're bad.

I really can't say enough good things about "Unbreakable". MJ wanted that to be the first single for a reason. Such a blistering, danceable track with amazing ad-libs.
[Edited 8/27/09 16:15pm]

Cry, Lost Children,2000 Watts and Threatened are the weakest tracks, but the others are pretty strong. "Whatever Happens" would have been a monster hit had it been promoted.

Am I the only one who actually likes The Lost Children? razz

His voice sounds pure and full of power in that song, gotta love it.

Invincible, however, is the album which I listen to fewest, although it has a couple of good tracks.

Buy it. wink

Believe it or not, the CD's that I listen to the least would be "Bad" and "Thriller". I listen to the rest regularly.

This is the only Michael Jackson album that I don't have and don't plan on getting it.When I heard the lead single "You Rock My World" and it sounded like everything else shitty on the radio, I said..."Next!". I don't put up with sellout music.

I think that song is okay but Michael needed stronger uptempo songs for this album.I remember in the fall of 2001,Jamiroquai released their album 'A Funk Odyssey' a few weeks before 'Invincible'.I was much more impressed with the Jamiroquai album. The uptempo tracks are exactly the type of grooves that Michael needed! Funky, retro disco/funk jams without a trace of shit hop.

Here is the difference between the two. Jamiroquai, was not trying to top their previous release...so no pressure. Michael was always concerned about topping "Thriller". This is what I believed, prevented him from releasing great music.

The uptempos from Invincible really do suck... I enjoy YRMW - it's fun and a decent dance/R&B track. Unbreakable has a great beat and I love how arrogant the lyrics are. Threatened is very clever, the way they've pieced together that Rod Serling rap etc.

Privacy sucks. 2000 Watts is throwaway. Heartbreaker has a good middle-eight but the rest of it blows. The title track sounds tired.

You sound like me. I haven't listened to Thriller in YEARS. Why bother when they are playing the music constantly. I rarely listen to Bad either. It's not that I don't like it, it just never comes up.

I agree. It's too bad he couldn't just go into the studio and make great music without putting all that pressure on himself to top 'Thriller'.

From what I keep reading and hearing, MJ was concentrated on being the best. I really don't think he was trying to recapture the sales or greatness of Thriller like many say, but I think it was more of outdoing the competition that was around at the time. That's just my take on it.

When I play both albums, (which is not often), they just don't not move me. The material on both albums, sound forced. On the other hand, you can hear the fun he had, making "Off The Wall"

I would definitely say that about "Bad", but not sure about "Thriller". For me, I'm SOO SICK OF HEARING THOSE SONGS! When I hear the opening drum beat to "Billie Jean" I roll my eyes. Same for "Beat It" and "Wanna Be Startin' Something".

The crazy thing is, I LOVE the remixes that they released in the 90s. I really like the Masters At Work version of WBSS.

Regarding the remixes, Michael had the best remixes. He went the extra mile in making sure that they were tight. I remember when the "Dangerous" CD came out, He had released this DJ's only edition of "Remember The Time", remixes. They were dope. I belonged to a DJ pool at that time and was sent a copy. All of the mixes of that song were great.

I don't care what anyone says, "Invincible" was a SOLID album. Not his best, but solid. It took a while for it to grow on me, but i've grown to appreciate it now. The uptempo songs aren't the best, esp. when compared to his other work, but the ballads on the album are killer. That album has his best love songs ever and that alone is worth buying the album for imo. His voice is incredible on this album.

The best songs on the album to me are:

You Rock My World
Don't Walk Away
Heaven Can Wait
Butterflies
Heartbreaker (Generic sounding I admit, but I still like it).
Unbreakable
Break of Dawn
Whatever Happens
Speechless (This gets hate for being overly sappy, but that's what I've come to expect with MJ lol. His vocals on this song are worth a listen though)
Cry

-All in all, I really like "Invincible". I listen to it all the time. What I feel is that Michael was trying to get back to his "urban" roots a bit with songs like "Butterlies", "Break of Dawn", "Heaven Can Wait", etc. and many were not expecting that. Yeah it's not his best work ever, but to call it rubbish is just BS. There are at least a handful of good songs on the album and I don't believe it deserves the bad rap it gets. I think that album, along with "Off The Wall" are the albums of his I listen to most often these days.
"And When The Groove Is Dead And Gone, You Know That Love Survives, So We Can Rock Forever" RIP MJ heart

"Baby, that was much too fast"...Goodnight dear sweet Prince. I'll love you always heart

I enjoyed the ballads on this cd. "Heaven Can Wait", "Butterflies", "Whatever Happens" (with Carlos Santana) are Michael Jackson gems. The voice that made me love him in the first place. I wasn't too crazy with the shit hop tracks, the Biggie duet, etc.

eek Those are the 2nd through 5th best, but I'd pick "Whatever Happens" over any of them.

I'm in the minority here, but I'll take "Privacy" over "Threatened," thanks.

I didn't really get into this album when it came out and it took me a long time to appreciate it... and some of it i still skip over.

i think it was too long and he should have narrowed it down a bit w/ the stronger material.

that said, unbreakable is definitely my favorite tune. i think it should have been the 1st single.

"The lost children" and "speechless" are the best tracks for me. The tracks where Michael tries not to be contemporary and just does his self indulgent thang are often his best work for me....

...Having said that, "Heartbreaker", despite the lenth, is also excellent. That middle 8 can give me goose bumps sorta like the guitar breakdown sometimes does on "dont stop 'till you get enough". Love it!

Dont hear the album much, but I remember buying it when it first dropped and thinking it would be awful, but was pleasantly surprised by it. Anyone expecting something as good as "dangerous" or "bad" were kidding themselves (though if you do prefer it to those 2 albums then thats cool too).

From a lyrical standpoint, "privacy" is tired as hell, but I do like the track. Its so self obsessed etc (well it is Michael Jackson)..., but I love his vocal on it. He sounds dirty/seedy.

It gave me goosebumps the first time I heard it as well.

Brilliant middle-eight. Shame the rest of the track isn't as good though...
