I'm sorry what was the question again?

As far as I can remember very few black artists have played stadiums in The United States. Janet Tina,Mariah,and WHitney have all played stadiums around the world but Prince and Michael are the only ones in The US.

Sales are usuualy higher around the world so to be able to play stadiums in The States is abig accomplishment. Michael Played then in The US on The'84 Victory Tour but went to arenas on The Bad Tour in '88 which sadly was his last US. Prince Played one stadium date ,the last on The Purple Rain Tour.

This show was made larger since he'd just canceled The Purple Rain European Tour. I do believe like Michael he does stadiums everywhere else in The World.
Prince probrably like doing arenas in The US since he like intement shows. He'd do clubs and theaters the rest of his life if he could.

So there are very few black artists whom can do stadiiums. They being mostly 80s artists whom are Pop artists mixing Sould with Rock and Dance. Janet may not anymore but I know she opened the 1990 Rythm Nation tour at The Tokyodome and has ended 2 of her's at Honalulu's ALoha Stadium(sorta nonUS).But have any artists latley climbed to the status of Michael or even Prince. Rihanna,Beyonce.Chris Brown,Neyo,Ciara,and even Usher may be big but I don't think any of them have done stadiums outside or definetly inside The US.

The picture posted of Brother Rick is a perfect example. I remember my folks would go to the stadium shows down south (late 70's) and see the Budwiser Superfests. Rick, Maze, The Bar-Kays, Kool & The Gang, Lakeside, Mother's Finest, and others would play starting around noon until the evening.

Really? I was watching "American Gangster" (the series) the other night and they were talking about the element in LA back in the 70's. One of the people they mentioned talked about the "good" he did for the community..(I think it was Tookie..BBQ's, block parties, etc) and it mentioned a quick blurb about the Wattstax concerts.

The narrator (Ving Rhames) said the Wattstax concerts went on until 1976 until the gang atmosphere got so bad that they were cancelled.

But I think you're right MrSoulPower because I only recall the "one" Wattstax concert w/ Rufus and Issac..Never heard about any others.

Luther Vandross played the stadium in my city back in the late 1980s. And every Tina Turner concert I've ever seen on television has been in a stadium.

The "Charts" back in the 1980's were called Pop/Rock which included everything .

My point was that it's very hard to get an artist like Prince played on Classic Rock stations even though Purple Rain and Let's Go Crazy fit the rock bill. You could listen to Van Halen on every station but Prince was played only on R&B sations or Pop/Top 40.
