The song I'm referring to is "Afternoon Delight" by the Starland Vocal Band. I think they were a one-hit wonder, and don't think that they had any other hit songs after this one hit the charts sometime in 1970's (can't remember the exact year). I thought it was a cute, innocent song, until I got older and REALLY started listening to the words. When I realized what they were singing about, I was like, "Woah!" omg lol This song has sex written alllll over it. giggle

I didn't realize either until the song was the center of an episode of Arrested Development. Michael and his niece Maeby performed a karaoke version of the song, but realized too late what the lyrics were about and how awkward it was for a man and his niece to sing it. lol

I can't say I blame parents like that. I think MTV would have been a nightmare if you had children to raise back then.

Yeah, but I think that most kids were pretty naive about things,at least I was. There were alot of songs that I just liked the sound of,but did'nt really catch the sexual references that were being made. Like Little Red Corvette,I had no clue that when Prince sang "I guess I must be dumb cause U had a pocket full of horses,Trojan and some of them used" that he was talking about condoms,I thought he was singing about horses. lol Thinking about it now, I don't know why at the time,I did'nt wonder how she got horses in her pocket. lol

I listen to a lot songs now that I listened to as a kid and realize the sexual connotations in the song. One of my favorites is from a Vesta song, "Don't Let Me Down", where she's clearly talking about having an orgasm. Here's my favorite part:

"I'm almost there. I need you to help me make it. Ohhhhh, it's so unfair, to miss it and have to fake it!" eek eek eek

Yeah,it's funny how when you're a kid,you can hear a song and not realize that it's about sex.In the summer of '81,I loved Grace Jones' song "Pull Up To The Bumper".I thought it was a fun song about cruising around, checking out the nightlife, driving down the LA streets.Years later,I discovered that Grace had other thoughts on her mind (lol)....

"pull up to my bumper,baby
in your long black limousine
pull up to my bumper,baby
drive it in between"

hmmm lol

I remember hearing this song when I was about seven and thinking the same thing Soul, lol! Thanks to hip hop being so popular when I was a teen in the 90's it made me pay attention to the lyrics more, so when I was about 15 I heard this Grace song again and was like, SHE'S A FREAK" lol! The song writers were very clever

Afternoon Delight Lyrics

Gonna find my baby, gonna hold her tight
Gonna grab some afternoon delight
My motto's always been 'when it's right, it's right'
Why wait until the middle of a cold dark night?
When everything's a little clearer in the light of day
And we know the night is always gonna be there any way

Thinkin' of you's workin' up my appetite
Looking forward to a little afternoon delight
Rubbin' sticks and stones together makes the sparks ingite
And the thought of rubbin' you is getting so exciting

Sky rockets in flight
Afternoon delight
Afternoon delight
Afternoon delight

Started out this morning feeling so polite
I always thought a fish could not be caught who wouldn't bite
But you've got some bait a waitin' and I think I might try nibbling
A little afternoon delight

Sky rockets in flight
Afternoon delight
Afternoon delight
Afternoon delight

Please be waiting for me, baby, when I come around
We could make a lot of lovin' 'fore the sun goes down

Thinkin' of you's workin' up my appetite
Looking forward to a little afternoon delight
Rubbin' sticks and stones together makes the sparks ingite
And the thought of rubbin' you is getting so exciting

Sky rockets in flight
Afternoon delight
Afternoon delight
Afternoon delight

Afternoon delight!
