Robert Zemeckis is in negotiations to direct a remake of the 1968 animated Beatles feature "Yellow Submarine" for the Walt Disney Studios.

Disney had no comment on the deal. Still being sorted out is the acquisition of rights to the film's music, which includes the title track as well as "Eleanor Rigby," "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds," "When I'm Sixty-Four" and "With a Little Help From My Friends."

Like all Zemeckis' animated productions -- among them "The Polar Express" and "Beowulf" -- "Submarine" would be done in performance capture and would be a digital 3D endeavor.

The original movie, produced by United Artists and King Features Syndicate, was a hit.

Its story involves a soldier called Old Fred who meets up with the Beatles and travels in a yellow submersible to Pepperland.

Among the creatures the group encounters are the music-hating Blue Meanies.

From what I've read , it's supposed to be a 3D adaptation. I'm a huge fan of 3D animation because that's what I'm studying to do but I still say...HELL FUCK NO to this idea. Some things just well enough left alone!

Hollywood is getting on my damn nerves with this remake crap! It's like they have no imagination left whatsoever!

I know I'm in the minority here, but the 60's version animation is so bland. Maybe it was cool during the psychedelic 60's but today it just doesn't seem to hold water. I love that it was released intact with a remixed soundtrack on DVD but I still can't get with that 60's animation. I know people around here hate the word "dated" but that's what it is. If anyone can pull this off Robert Zemeckis can. The kids today can't get with the "old" version. Believe me, I tried once to get my little girl to watch it; trying to rub a little Beatles love onto her. NO INTEREST WHATSOEVER! Maybe this will do it.

This has been in the works for years!! It will be interesting to see what Yoko, has to say about it.

They already showed a clip on MTV yesterday of "Sgt. Pepper" in some weird 3d animation...didnt look bad actually.
