U2 - no line on the horizon - revisited

So when the new record came out I thought I loved it at first.

But then after playing it a few times I set it aside and never went back. Just never felt the urge to hear it again.

Put it on tonight for the first time in ages, to listen to the 3rd single choice "I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight." It's a cool song. Maybe should have been the 1st single.

Then played the rest of it... it's starting to grow on me more. Maybe this ones a slow-burner?

Thoughts on this album?

listened to it on and off for the first month it was out and I've not returned to it, even though i'd really been looking forward to it. maybe I should give it another shot? nothing really grabbed me from it the first time around.

Its a grower/slow burner. I'm glad it isnt hit you over the head instant smash type songs. These songs are more fleshed out and you pick up so much on later listens. They transfer well in the live setting as well, check out the youtube live performances of their latest tour.

And like errant and you sated, you can put it away for weeks and pull it out again and its like new/pulls you in again

I like U2's stuff a lot, and thought NLOTH was great. If I hadn't gotten into Lotusflow3r and found Dave Matthews Band and Nikka Costa's latest projects in a Wal-Mart bin, I'd probably still be listening to that disc.

Time to listen to it again. I love "Magnificent" and how it's a gospel song in disguise.

i keep meaning to get back to it, but every time i think of putting it on, i just remember not being at all interested in anything on there and find something else to do with my listening time.

i'd really like to love this record, but i just can't ever seem to want to put it on again.

Try just a particular track.. i was curious when i saw the 3rd single "Crazy Tonight" because I honestly couldn't remember what its sounded like. so i played it, and really paid attention to it for the first time. Maybe check that out, and go from there... worked for me smile

'Moment of Surrender' grabbed me the first time I heard. Favorite on the album.

at first I was a bit disappointed with NLOTH, but keep revisiting it more often. And some of the songs really are fantastic. The title song is just a burst of energy. and unknown caller wasn't that bad. Crazy tonight is also growing on e (I hated it at first). And ofcourse seeing them perform the songs live in Amsterdam last month was also great. Somehow they have the same flaw as Prince. Their music sounds so super live that it just pales on disc...

is it just me or as soon as i put an album on my ipod, i listen to it once and then never again as it slips into the abyss of 8,000 songs

from what i can remember - i liked this album a lot - but did not love it

as far as U2 is concerned - they are the best

That's the problem these days with ipods and mp3's , songs tends to get drowned in a sea of music. It's hard to distinguish as it's so easy to get by it loses it's value.

Maybe the newer stuff. Hearing their 80's material tuned down so Bono can still sing it, isn't that inspiring.

that happens to me a lot lately, with all of the new and old music i'm devouring. and yeah, the iPod lends itself to that. sometimes i wish i could really get into stuff hardcore like i used to.

on the other hand, it's probably a healthier way to approach it than getting obsessed and letting it take over my life. i'm too damn busy for hardcore devotion to an artist or an album any more.

guess i'm getting older....

like with almost every release by every artist these days, i'll probably
only get into this album once they release a new one.

i'll listen to the new one and go "meh" and then i'll give the last one
another listen and all of a sudden i'll like it.

lol

yeah, same thing happens to me. i play my ipod on shuffle all day at work, and new stuff doesn't always get the attention it needs to really get to know it. just too much music!!

I disagree. I am at just under 10,000 songs and I revisit artists, albums and songs all the time.
