Cherrelle. | |

Cherrelle, always have. I do appreciate what Robert Palmer did with it though. Mariah's was just her singing over the original track, beefed up a bit. Great Jam/Lewis production.
Side note: Cherelle and Pebbles are cousins. [Edited 8/18/09 12:14pm]

That's easy: Cherrelle's

REALLY hard choice for me - I love Cherrelle's but, maybe it's because I knew Robert Palmer's version first, I always have a soft spot for that one. I just don't know!
BRILLIANT song. | |

Definitely Cherrelle. Never cared much for Robert Palmer's version or his music in general.

What´s the difference between Cherrelle´s and Mariah´s version? "When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."

Mariah's voice, lol. She basically sampled Cherrelle's back track.

One's an original voice, one is a copy cat throw back. I believe that the track is really the original Cherelle track, just slightly beefed up for Mariah. It seems like I remember Jam/Lewis talking about it.

I knew Mariah´s version cause i have the album and when I listend to Cherrelle´s version, i was like "it´s completely the same". So whoever did the cover should have change it somehow cause what´s the point in recording the very same song again? Cherrelle's came out in 1984. Her's in the original. Mariah used that old instrumental track for her version on the Glitter years after (probably because that movie was allegedly set in the 80's). That's probably why a lot of people like Cherrelle's version. They know who sang it first and what it sounds like.

Yeah Mariah's came 17 years AFTER Cherrelle's. Robert's version came out a year later and he did a completely different version.

It's funny that you you all are comparing these two versions. Robert was not fond of his version, so he rerecorded his vocals, on a later cd. I prefer his version over hers. I was a huge Robert Palmer fan. He will be missed. "Love is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth"

We're comparing Mariah's too.

It is just a karaoke...."Love is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth"

Everytime I listen to this song, I get the feeling a beat is missing or something. I just cant dance to it Cherelle is the best. I don't see the diffrence with hers or Mariah Scarey. I guess it's Mariah singing over a beat.
Robert Palmer = Ameican Idol- Who digs that dude

I love Cherelle's version, but I actually prefer Palmer's because the song is so much funnier from a man's perspective. Hers is a great track; his is a great track that makes me giggle.
