The whole song is amazing, i love everything about it, it's one of those songs i've never skipped, never got bored of, i just can't. MJ's lead vocal is one take, the strings, the little flourishes, the backing vox, so much to listen to and find new things in it (even after a zillion listens!). It's never stopped getting played in bars and clubs since it came out, so easy to hear why. it's pure ear candy. Michaels zenith really as an artist, after the Motown25 performance it was the start of the decline (starting with the Victory tour), I don't think it ever came together again for him as perfectly as it did with Billie Jean again. But this here song will be around as long as humans are on the planet. Yeah "Billie Jean" music-wise was his magnum opus.

[Edited 8/17/09 18:58pm] Billie Jean without the bassline is like the Mona Lisa without the smile. Swa "I'm not human I'm a dove, I'm ur conscience. I am love"

That's one of the things I love most about him, his unique pronunciations. What's this got to do with an instrumental anyway?

This is why, "Off The Wall", is my favorite MJ, CD. In my opinion, it is far superior that "Thriller" and has aged better. Allot of people think that because an albums sells allot and stays at No. 1, that it's a great album; I don't believe this. In fact, I think in some ways, it's your worse album. The better CD, is the one that does not sell that well, but has songs that people can play 20 plus years later....this is what, "Off The Wall", is. As much as I like "Thriller", I don't play it as much as I play "Off The Wall". When I do, I find myself skipping tracks. I play "Off The Wall", right through. Maybe it is an age thing, but, "Thriller", has not aged well. "Love is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth"

I think his music would sound the same. In fact, I think it would have sounded better. Why? I think the success of "Thriller", hindered him in a way, from being the artist that he was when he recorded, "Off The Wall". There is a big difference in sound and his demeanor, between both records. In "Off The Wall", you here an artist that is having the time of his life. During the recording of "Thriller and everything else afterward, you could almost hear the pressure that was placed on him by his peers and by himself to be better than successful.
