It'll definitely air this month. But last time I checked, he's not a Curtom recording artist, so it won't be this week. wink

Interesting that you mention Patti Miller. That's probably the only Curtom release that I don't have. Do you know if it's any good?

It's the oddball artist on the roster.
She had a Folk/Country/Pop thing happening.
Maybe the attraction was her songwriting.

Going by the album cover, that's pretty obvious.
Is the record any good?

Personally, it's not my cup of tea.
A little too loose for my tastes.

I don't wanna take the focus from the Curtom special,,,,,but somebody gave this dame a nudge about Blackguitaritz' tune and I'm intrigued to say the least

Uncle Neal, I didn't know that Ms.Barbara Mason was produced by Curtis at some point? hmmm And I got 2 more ?uestions.

Wasn't Ed Townsend the producer for Marvin Gaye's Lets Get It On? What was his association with Curtom? And was Mystique the band that featured Freddie Jackson?

Alright,,,so they were 3 ?uestions lol I maintain.

Ed Townsend does have a producer's credit and a number of co-writing credits on the Let's Get It On album.

I'm only aware of 1 Mystique album on Curtom...

...and Freddie Jackson wasn't in it.

You're probably thinking of the group he was in called Mystic Merlin.

Regarding Barbara Mason, as far as I know, it was just a one-off duet record with Bunny Sigler...

To answer some of your questions ...

Curtis Mayfield produced one album for Barbara Mason recorded in 1973, Give me your Love. The title track is a cover of Mayfield's ballad on the Superfly soundtrack. But this album wasn't released on Curtom, but on Buddah, which distributed Curtom at that time.

Ed Townsend's involvement with Curtom was an off-and-on affair. He wrote the Impressions hit Finally Got myself together (I'm a changed man) with Ralph Johnson and Reggie Torian on lead vocals. The album of the same name was released in 1974, but it was produced by Rich Tufo and Lowrell Simon. Townsend also wrote the tunes Miracle Woman, Guess what I've got and Try me (one more time) for that album.

The first Curtom album produced by Townsend was First Impressions, released in 1975. He also wrote all but one track on that album, including the title track and Sooner or later, Same thing it took, Old before my time, Groove, How high is high and Why must a love song be a sad song.
Townsend also produced the follow-up album Sooner or later.

But Townsend has also released his own album on Curtom in 1976, titled Now.

Regarding your question about Mystique, they released only one album on Curtom in 1977, titled Mystique. It had Impressions singer Ralph Johnson on lead vocals, not Freddie Jackson. The album was produced by Curtis Mayfield.

And finally, Leroy Hutson produced all of his albums himself. He was Curtom's number one staff producer, and he's also responsible for a series of albums by the Natural Four, Linda Clifford and The Voices of East Harlem.

Hope that helped. biggrin

Ed and Leroy worked for Curtom around the same time, but Lee produced all his albums himself.

Barbara's album with Bunny Sigler was her second collaboration with the Mayfield camp after Give me your love.

Download's up! I have to say, I really love his job, but last night was something else. The Curtom sound is very special to me, and while I played the show, I learned that many people feel the same. I got bombarded with messages and calls from listeners througout the entire show who were, like me, high from the positive vibe of the Curtom sound ...
I hope you'll feel the same way .. this is a keeper for sure. Hell, I'm gonna burn it on CD myself. biggrin

Ok, people ... this is the deal ... we get about 30 to 40 songs/CDs every week from aspiring artists, asking to be played on our show. We usually reject most of them, because our show is an oldschool Funk and Soul show, with very few exceptions. Our audience wants to hear old tunes, and we exclusively play vinyl on our show.

I decided to play Blackguitaristz song because he covered one of his dad's 60s Soul classics ... which I find to be a neat concept. So we'll play both the original and new version of that particular tune.

But since all of our shows are concept shows (like the recent Curtom show), we'll slot Blackguitaristz song for one of our shows with a rather loose concept, where it fits in.

This will probably happen next week (Friday, September 18th), if nothing comes up.

Please keep in mind that we have about 10,000 listeners on air every month and about 600 listeners who download our shows monthly. The percentage of listeners from the org is rather small ... so it's not like our crowd knows who Blackguitaristz is ... biggrin

Oh, I can definately understand that and I can just imagine how many songs y'all receive. We really would like to hear his song because he's a fellow orger and we've known him for years.

But if it's OK with the moderators, could he have a thread with his song in it maybe by yousendit or something and post it over in the section where the musicians talk about their creations? It wouldn't really be like posting a song for an illegal download since it's his own creation. But he would definately need to give his permission though because he may plan on releasing it to sell. But if he really wants to get it heard, I think that would be a great idea.
