On another note, do you ever go to the Soul Spectrum night, promoted by Fryer? It's one of the best Funk nights in Europe ... Oooh, I used to go to Buster Brown's in Edinburgh on Sunday nights, they had a Soul Funk and Jazz nite, that was in the 80's though. Edinburgh had a great club scene, but I'd moved down south by the early 90's... (I told you I'd annoy you MrSoulpower ) Dunno Buster Brown's ... but I played at Cabaret Voltaire a few times, which I liked a lot. I enjoyed Edinburgh.

I'm especially excited about the upcoming Midnight Soulstice show for this Friday, September 4th, which will be a Tribute to Curtom Records.
To most Soul fans, the name Curtom Records has a magic ring to it. Curtom was started in 1968 by Curtis Mayfield along with Impressions associate Eddie Thomas (the bands manager and Jerry Butler's former driver). The labels name was a combination of Thomas' surname (Thomas) and Mayfields first name (Curtis). The label was one of the first ever being owned by an African-American recording artist, and it was located in Chicago's old RCA studio, acquired by Mayfield for cutting demos. Along with the Impressions' releases and Mayfield's own solo material, artists on or affiliated with Curtom included the Five Stairsteps, Donny Hathaway (principally as a songwriter/orchestration arranger), Linda Clifford, Baby Huey and the Babysitters, Leroy Hutson, The Natural Four and more ... Most of the acts on Curtom's roster were either produced by Mayfield himself or in many cases by Leroy Hutson, who had a producer's contract with the label (listen to Leroy Hutson talk about his work for Curtom on Midnight Soulstice - get the download). There is no denying, the music released on Curtom is known for its signature sound, wich was heavily influenced by Mayfield himself. On tonight's show, you'll enjoy a two-hour selection of the finest Curtom recordings by DJ Pari. You'll also get to hear some tracks on labels affiliated with Curtom, such as Mayfield Records and Just Sunshine Records. This show will be all about feel-good-music, so be sure to not miss it! Tune in from 11 pm until 1 Eastern on 97.3 fm (in Richmond, VA) or listen to the webstream at www.wrir.org If you like these following tunes, you better not miss Friday's Midnight Soulstice! Natural Four – Try Love Again The Notations – Super People Leroy Hutson – Lucky Fellow The Five Stairsteps & Cubie – Baby make me feel so good Jesse Anderson – Let me back in The Voices of East Harlem – Can you Feel It Baby Huey & The Babysitters – Hard Times and of course ... The Impressions - Choice of Colors Curtis Mayfield - Give me your love

I love me some Curtis Mayfield, Chicago soul sound ! I LOVE the Curtom sound! And I'm really looking forward to playing this show. I'm glad you're feelin' it, too. You should get the download for the Leroy Hutson show, in case you didn't hear it when we first aired it in December. It was his first radio interview in 20 years, and the entire show was all about the Curtom sound. http://wrir.org/x/modules...oryid=8528

^ You'll definitely get to hear some of the above ... but as usual, I'll hip my audience to some lesser known material, so it will be a combination of both.
Interesting that you mention Patti Miller. That's probably the only Curtom release that I don't have. Do you know if it's any good?
