Me too This song and "Finally We're Back Together Again" are the only songs on the album that sound genuinely soulful, reminiscent of her Gamble and Huff material from the late 70s/early 80s.The other songs sound more "pop",a direct result of the massive pop hit that she had a year earlier ("New Attitude").It's a good album overall. Not her best, but still very good.

Diana Ross's antics are LEGENDARY, but you are the first person I have ever heard attack her personally. You don't like her music and that is fine, but unless you are some insider that has been personally wronged by Patti Labelle, your opinions are just that. As far as your mother, I am sure you would be quick to whoop someones ass had they called her a bitch. Let me asked Totaldiva, do you yourself know Ms. LaBelle personally? You defend her as though you do. Whether we want to admit it or not, we all have that "inner bitch inside of us. Your screen name alone, conjures up an imagine of a "not so nice person", but I am sure that you are the total opposite of your screen name. I personally, don't care for her vocal acrobatics...they are just not need on every song. This is one of the reasons why I prefer, Dolly's version of "I will always love you", over Whitney's, (If you are breaking up with me, there is no need to scream the sentiment off the top of your lungs). We don't know Patti personally but, all of the stories about her catching a attitude, when things don't go her way, cannot be wrong. I have just as much personal info on Ms. Holt as you do. It is fine not to be a fan of her music, but no need to disrespect someone's mother and grandmother by calling her a bitch. Especially if she has not personally offended you. You are totally disrespectful, and as I said before, you wouldn't like someone to call your mother a bitch. Keep your opinions about the music, not calling a woman a female dog. Classless. What is bad is when you start taking your power as a superstar for granted, as many often do. You then start walking that very "fine" line of "Diva" and "female dog". Sometimes less is more, and I don't think that Patti gets this concept. "Love is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth"

It's decent, lol. Compared to her 1977-1985 material, it's not as great as albums like Released (which Patti co-wrote and co-produce the entire album with Allen Toussaint and James "Budd" Ellison) and It's Alright with Me and the first two solo albums and I'm in Love Again (her best album). But it's got some cuts on it like "Winner in You" and "Something's Special Is Gonna Happen Tonight" (I like that one, it has a groove similar to Chaka's "This Is My Night").

Another beautiful favorite of mine!! "Love, Need, and Want You".
Don't know what's up with "Down South Hardcore Wrestling" but it's the song...

^^ That's one of the greatest songs of all time, that and this one from the same album:
It's slowed down but it's still sexy as hell. Actually the slower pitch makes it more fabulous to me. Them strings...

I agree,'I'm In Love Again' is her best solo album.Interestingly enough,it was recorded in 1979 but remained in the vaults until 1983.Gamble and Huff dusted it off, released it in late 1983,and watched it become of her biggest-selling albums.

Yeah the majority of the album was between 1979 and 1981. "If Only You Knew" was actually recorded in 1981, well maybe it was recorded in 1979 but I'm not sure, lol. Only "I'll Never, Never Give Up", "Love Bankrupt", "Lover Man" and "When Am I Gonna Find True Love" were recorded in '83. I think "If Only You Knew", "Love, Need & Want You" and "I'm In Love Again" were recorded in '81. "Body Language" does sound like a late 1970s recording. [Edited 8/21/09 21:37pm]

But, yes, one of my favorite songs by Ms. Labelle! Haha, if it did, my apologies. But yeah it's boss. That intro is one of the best intros I ever heard in music, period. Patti said her producer told her to smile through the recording because her voice brought out something charming when she did smile. She only began "cutting up" at the end.

I'm often impressed by her vocal prowess and her ability to put a song over and imbue it with passion an emotion. Just as often, I can't stand all that ear-splitting wailing and shreiking she's prone to. I totally agree with you. Her over singing on certain songs, made me not want to listen to her as much. If you wanna talk about a singer that does not get the credit that she deserves, I would have to say, Gladys Knight. Ms. Knight has a way of singing a song in such a way, that leaves the lister wanting more. Patti just does not do that for me, [bold]I don't want to be taken to church all the time[/bold]. Agree!! Though "Love Need And Want You" and "Somebody Loves You" are personal favorites, sometimes she takes those sheiking too far, making her sounds like an old lady falling in the staircase Everybody is somebody, but nobody wants to be themselves.
