singer/songwriter of "Those are the people who died"

was also the basis for Leonardo Dicaprio's film "The Basketball Diaries"

I'm remember when I arrived in L.A. in 1980 and attempting to assess the local music scene (post-punk/New Wave), that was one of the tunes that got my attention during a forced daily dose of KROQ.
