Ashanti???

Can anyone tell me why Ashanit is so popular and winning award after award? I usually keep up with music quite well, but it seems to me that she came out of nowhere. It also seems to me that she arrived on the scene shortly after the death the Aaliaya. I may be totally whack, but here is my theory. Ashanti is big because her record company wanted her to be huge. The company is Murder Inc. and IMO they are a bunch of thugs running that company. I believe they saw Aaliaya's death as a way to make their own current new comer big and make themselves richer than ever. IMO her music is average and so his her voice. She is nothing special. My point...anyone can be famous and make tons of money if your record company really wants you to be and especially if most of the execs are thugs! Flame me all you want. I believe my theory is correct. Murder Inc is full of thugs and it's too bad for the honest, hard working people who must also work there too.

Ashanti is this year's: Aliyah who replaced Beyonce who replaced which ever current pop diva of the year...it's such an obvious trend.

you have a valid point resistor. I just wish they wouldn't hype people so much when their talent is merely average.

Aaliyah came out WAY before Beyonce.

In any case, Ashanti is a joke. Her voice is irritating and her stage performances are amateur.

Sometimes I have to wonder, are the public really falling for it? The music industry is increasingly being dictated about by music executives and not the public. MTV is so dry and dull now, it almost bares no importance whatsoever IMO. Or is the public REALLY that deranged, devoid of original opinion and most of all so LAZY and uninterested in music, that they'll accept whatever is shoved down their throat? Luckily current worldwide sales figures for new music is showing that there's a bit of a backlash going on. The industry/media feeds us shite, then don't buy anything at all.

I don't think Ashanti could ever sing on a song that's title didn't feature the phrase: (feat. Ja Rule)

Ashanti is VERY overrated. But it's easy to see why she is so successful. She's very pretty, which is always a plus. She is a part of Murder Inc.,which is currently the hottest hip-hop/R&B record label. Her songs rely heavily on samples.

Yep,she has all the "ingredients" to succeed in today's music biz smile

well my friend ANita, she ends up buying whatever new album is popular at the moment & new (im not a ja rule fan,but she wanted his new cd,so i surprised her & got it 4 her b*day) . . . .. .& she isnt stupid, tho i would like 2 open up her mind 2 what the record biz is all about in this day . . . .
& dumbass commercial radio jocks help this . . .
by becoming nothing but slaves 2 a format . . . .where u have the seemingly inteligent female hostess (who is a fucking dumbass anyway) & the stupid male host (who is actually very intelligent, just playing the role of Doofus who knows bugger all!). . . .& keeping the 15 yr old boppers listening 2 their crap (i know cos i have been their. . . .i was a victim of all this, won some cool cd's tho in the process wink )

we all know now why it is the way it is . . . .jus grin & bare it,until maybe one day, when i am old & grey, there willbe something in this god4saken business called INTEGRITY

worship me 4 a post well ,um,posted lol

Good point, now all we have to do in start to appreciate the older musicians more and respect the fact that they have shown great integrity. Some people insist on saying some people are way past their prime. Just because someone isn't 20 something with fake tits and a crappy voice, doesn't mean they are a has been. For example, Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan. These are two great musicians with more talent in their baby finger than most of the new artists today. People call Prince a has been, but us true fans know what real talent he has and we still love his music and he still excites us. If he is still making music 20 years from now, I'm sure I will still be enjoying it and finding some of it exciting.

ashanti is horrible and the funny thing is that I used to criticize Aaliyah but if you listen to the two...oh my goodness, Aaliyah was so much better and you can hear the potenial in her voice. I love "I care for you" and the new single.

The sad thing is there are millions of "ashanti's". She"s not so special.

Ashanti beens around forever ... she was always singing in the background with different people ... you can hear her on a couple of fat joe's song and ja rule way before she came out on her... she ain't really all that talented ... all her music is sampled and ... she isn't all that pretty... but thugs are not as stupid as u think they are... if u run the streets night and day u know thing or to about how money is ran... i know this for a fact... Ja rule himself may not walk around prouncing all his verbs correctly but he's not stupid ... i mean if he was stupid he wouldn't be making half the money he makes or people wouldn't buy into the crap that ashanti is talented. Just think about it ... People don't always want 2 hear things with meaning ... if it's pointless and less meaningful then it should sale big ... but if it's has a point then no body will pay it any attention ... i don't think ashanti's success has anything 2 do with aaliyah's death ... but just think about it ... When Ashanti is out of the spotlight there will be somebody else who will take her spot ... this has been going on for years and I don't see any changes ... this is why I download music instead of buying ... because they sale just a bunch of pointless crapt any

Ashanti...got the publicity she needed to be a 'star'(???)

Murder Inc. the most talented record label??? Ja Rule played himself there, although I like some of the little hits he made.

She's like any other singer out there that can't really sing. Nothing special there.

Many have come after Aaliyah it seems, that have tried to look and sound like her, in some way...

but no one can really replace her. She was unique and talented in her own way.

But again, as far as singing...there's always only those special FEW...

Indeed. Unfortunately, I really was kinda oblivious to Aaliyah until she passed. Listening to her stuff back to back, it seems pretty obvious that she would have definitely went on to greater things. You can certainly see the growth in each subsequent album.

Ashanti is absolutely bereft of soul. And I am absolutely thrilled to have gotten to use the word 'bereft' in a post!
