'Set It Off' : 'Missing You' by some amazing female artists. Also loved 'Dayz of our Livez' by Bone Thugs N Harmony. 'Love & Basketball' : Oh my jebus, this is a awesome soundtrack. I bought the 'Lucy Pearl' album because of this soundtrack (love that album). Man, it's got 'I Like' by Guy; 'Sweet Thing' by Rufus and Chaka; 'I Want To Be Your Man' by Roger'; and, 'Fool Of Me' by Meshell Ndegeocello on it...nuff said. Honorable mention like a mug over here. [Edited 8/17/09 12:24pm] YES! nice picks. I forgot about Set It Off! Love & Basketball soundtrack is SOLID! [Edited 8/17/09 16:24pm] How can I stand 2 stay where I am? / Poor butterfly who don't understand.

You probably have most of it already. I love Angie Stone's cover of the Simply Red song. Anyway, since most of my fave are mentioned here(Love Jones is the reason why I got back and looked for Mr.Billy Eckstine's original "Jelly Jelly"), here are a couple...

One of my all time favorite movies as a child! The music in this flick was just mindblowing to me as a 11-year old. It's also the first time I heard Get up Offa that Thang by James Brown! Been a fan since CLASSIC!!! Loved this movie growing up in the 90's! IMO- The soundtrack is what made the movie even better. I Believe I Can Fly by R.Kelly Fly Like An Eagle by Seal Space Jam by Quad City DJ's For You I Will by Monica That's The Way (I Like It) by Biz Markie and Spin Doctors Hit 'Em High (The Monstars' Anthem) by B-Real, Coolio, Method Man, LL Cool J, Busta Rhymes the whole album! Mostly God's Stepchild by Janet Jackson Another movie I loved growing up in the 90's! It's a fairly decent soundtrack. Though many tracks are missing, it still is reminiscent of the film. Classic. So 90's!! The Best Things in Life Are Free by Janet Jackson and Luther Vandross Money Can't Buy You Love by Ralph Tresvant My Dear by Mint Condition Joy by Sounds of Blackness Forever More by Color Me Badd

Wild Women Do - Natalie Cole Fame '90 - David Bowie King of Wishful Thinking - Go West Tangled - Jane Wiedlin It Must Have Been Love - Roxette Life in Detail - Robert Palmer No Explanation - Peter Cetera Real Wild Child (Wild One) - Christopher Otcasek Fallen - Lauren Wood Oh, Pretty Woman - Roy Orbison Show Me Your Soul - Red Hot Chili Peppers . YESSSS! Oh my lawd, 'It Must Have Been Love' was the sole reason I bought this album and it's phenomenal all the way through. Yes! I remember watching Pretty Woman, falling head over heels for Julia Roberts (or so I thought. She is just throughout the film) and rushing straight into HMV, once it ended, to buy the soundtrack. I hadn't heard it in years before this thread and *had* to download it. It's brilliant - and 'Fallen' makes me melt.

Honourable mentions:
'Trainspotting' - it defines the 90s 'Even Cowgirls Get The Blues' - considered a flop after 'Ingenue', this is *vastly* overlooked; and has some wonderful tracks. I love it.

Ingenue, Cowgirls and all you can eat.....some of the best records of the nineties and she was in her prime as a singer and writer for all three. Lifted By Love, Just Keep Me Moving, Hush Sweet Lover, Curious Soul Astray are my personal favourites.

That is a masterpiece. It took me ages to 'get' it... once I did, I fell head over heels in love with it. It's utterly beautiful. IIRC, wasn't 'Ingenue' written about kd lang's relationship with Wendy Melvoin?? . [Edited 8/19/09 12:57pm]

[Edited 8/19/09 12:57pm] I'm not sure about the connection to Wendy, but that would add to the intrigue of the songs a bit more. Ingenue is one of those rare PERFECT albums. It doesn't let up from note one of Save me to the fade out of Constant Craving, and the production is beyond description. There's something so uniquely elegant about the whole affair, and ms. lang's voice.....(tears up)

Apparently, the album charts the arc of their relationship - from the heady, first rush when you fall in love, to the point where it consumes you and beyond. When it was released, there was a particular music critic who kept praising it over and over; I wasn't familiar with her work but go so used to seeing this album mentioned, I *had* to get it. It took me about ten listens to 'get' it - then I fell totally in lov with it. As you say, the productions, the songwriting, kd's voice... just perfect. I really, really love this album.
