"In the Closet"

[DISCLAIMER: I don't care that this is the 1,000,000 thread about Michael Jackson!]

This song absolutely rocks! The vocals are cool and the song itself is seriously funky. Just love that song, my new favorite off of Dangerous. Anybody agree with me (except for DavidEye, I know he does!)?

calldapplwondery83, in a recent thread, orgers were invited to name their favourite tracks from MJ's records. From the Dangerous record I nominated 'In The Closet'. Hope this answers your question.

Classic MJ Track IMHO.the Cool thing is How MJ takes a Old School Term&Flips the Script with the Jam.dug how Teddy Riley's Playing Builds up with MJ's VOcals right near the end.the Beats I could tell were from the "Bad" Era especially the Groove from "Leave Me Alone".Mike's Falsetto on "in the Closet" ain't no Joke.

i liked the song, but it was really a missed opportunity not going through with the Madonna collaboration. the title brings a bit of controversy to mind, but when he cut Madonna out of it, he totally went the safe route. the portion of the lyrics she had written played up the title more. i guess Michaels balls weren't as big as hers... too bad, could have been something actually INTERESTING and CONTROVERSIAL from him in a GOOD WAY for a change. ah well. still like the song.

Song still gives me chills

The vocal arrangement is TIGHT!!!

DAMN this song just gave me a chill right now just thinking of how he sung the first line.

The music is VERY dope, and is still ahead of it's time, it is timeless

Frankie Knuckles Remixes were tight as well on the Song.matter of fact the songs released from "Dangerous" that Had Re-mixes were tight IMHO.

I agree.Michael should have done this song with Madonna, the way it was originally planned. She even had some crazy ideas for the video. It could have taken him in a whole new bolder direction. It's still a cool song though.

I think one of the most underrated songs on this album is "She Drives Me Wild"!! No one talks about this song. It's a funky, sparse little ditty that bumps really good in the car! smile

First of all, "In the closet" is true masterpiece. But "She Drives Me Wild"? "I can't let her get away" should have been a single!

"There's something about you baby...that makes me want to give it to you...There's something about you baby"

I love this MJ song and LOVE the video as well. That video was blazing with Naomi Campbell. I like this video because of presented Mike in a strong masculine like manner. He had the jeans and muscle t-shirt on. And the way he was grinding up on Naomi in the video... I was like "oh...look at Mike acting mannish at all".

Love the part where Mike and Naomi collide and Mike face is between her legs.

U guys keep talking about how HE shuold've left Madonna in the song, if u read his biographies well enough...

U find it is MADONNA who turned it down, and said that the song would be an embarassment 2 her!
She also said 2 him while they were having dinner is that HE is the one who needs 2 come out the closet.

Damn she can be mean

Yeah he was doing some fine "acting" in this video - acting like he was attracted to a woman.

That song has a great simple but well sung chorus

"There's something about you baby..."

It just works!

I wonder what you mean by "the portion of the lyrics she had written played up the title more." Is there somewhere on the net I can read about this or could you fill me in as to what her ideas were. I heard that it was suppose to be a duet with MJ and Madonna but nothing more. I really didn't hear that she wrote stuff for it!

here in the states at the time that video was considered kinda Risque.it outraged quite a few folks.now on the Video Version that isn't Princess Stephanie's Voice sounds like either Naomi or Diana Ross.Mike even busted a James Brown Split in the Video.that was my Cut.I remember one day going out on a Ride&next too me driving was a Girl with Her Jerri Curl all up in the Window Bouncing too this Jam.still a tight Jam.

Really??
I don't remember any outrage.
Outrage that it was filmed in B&W?
More like outrageous that there was zero chemistry between MJ & Naomi.
Don't get me wrong - I like the song - I have the cd & the cd single. It just was always a pretty Herb Ritts video - no more risque than Janet Jackson's video for Love Will Never Do that was shot with Herb Ritts long before he worked with MJ.

MJ co-directed the video. I think it looks slightly different from all other Herb Ritts videos.

Still, I don't think the Madonna thing would have worked. Her spoken voice is too strong for starters, and I much prefer the subtelty of the song and video than the all and out strip shows Madonna was doing at the time. It would have taken away from the song in the long run and been a novelty controversy trip.

Madonna is a novelty controversy trip! But then i guess both MJ and Prince are too. biggrin
