"Obsessed" is already starting to drop out of the R&B Top 20 and is stalled at #14 on the Pop charts.
Again, if her label really cared, they would release a ballad as the first single. Ballads are what made her so famous in the first place. Why fuck with what works? But, no. Instead, they decided to release a dumb hip-hop song about nothing. What are Def Jam, Mariah and her management thinking??? Got a feeling this may be her final album for the label. PricelessHo said: lastdecember said: thats how labels think, thats been the way for years now with artists that are demanding alot of $$$ in promo. You think if Beyonces first single was stalled at 14 that people wouldnt be saying the same, thats how it goes, the thing is that songs are flying by it that have no promo or at least artists that arent getting major money, i mean Pitbull? this guy has been doing the same rap for over a decade and he is sailing by people, he is actually still considered an INDIE artist. they could get lucky and have yet another It's Like That/We Belong Together scenario with this project. we'll have to wait and see. It's Like That was actually good and did good in the charts. I mean everything has to be taken into context. It's Like That did reach only No.16 but her last first single from an album (Through The Rain) didn't even make the Top 40. Obsessed charted higher (No.11 so far) but the previous lead single from an album of hers made No.1. So relatively Obsessed didn't do good (it's definitely not a flop) whereas It's Like That did fine.

This will be Mariah'slast album with island/def jam. I cant see her re-signing with them.
Also all this about a ballad as the first single, She hasn't always released ballads as the first single. Fantasy, Honey, Heartbeaker, Loverboy and It's like that spring to mind.

And it also didn't help Mariah that almost a billion people plainly saw how bad her voice has become at the MJ Memorial. Epic fail! So then on top of this Eminem bullshit, and the whole autotune song....what is left to say?
I enjoy Mariah too, but I'm not gonna lie. Her voice is gone! And it's not like she has dance skills or other entertainment factors like acting to fall back on...unlike other female artists that I won't name.

Lawd, the only things missing from that screamfest is Patti oversangin' e'rybody, kickin' off her shoes, and rolling on the floor AND James Brown's valet dude throwing a cape over 'Tasia's collapsed tail. BTW, didn't her mama tell her you ain't 'posed to expose your shoulders at chuch???

all those ladies can SANG! but there was just a bit too much of the chuuuuch, if you know what I mean. And it's kinda scary that Lil Mo was the best looking woman on that stage.
Kiki needs to not wear pants (Imma big gurl, and I still said it, what?) And when did Coko get all that azz. LOL. And Tasia is Tasia.... They sounded good but just too much voice. Mariah needs some of that overflow....

That's not the problem. Mariah, is NOT what she used to be, and neither is her voice. Obsessed was a great choice for a single, but the video was not called for. She is to grown to be starting a feud with anybody, much less Eminem. "Love is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth"

Can someone in the media bring up that Mariah HAD to sing live at the MJ Memorial and sounded like shit! Then she is on America's Got Talent and Lip Syncs.
Can someone outside of the internet call her out. Its only been going on since like 1998.

It's really not that hard to understand. All the promo bookings were made around the album's original release date (August 25). Now that it has been delayed by a month, there is no point in promoting a month early and they are cancelling everything. It will all be rescheduled.
It's not rocket science, nor does it have anything to do with Mariah's personal situation.

People are acting like Obsessed is some kind of major flop, when in fact it is a moderate hit. Maybe because Mariah has historically always hit it out of the park OR flopped outright (she's never had a song peak in the 6-10 range on the Hot 100), people don't know how to classify it in her catalogue. The song is still gaining airplay and remaining steady in sales, and will definitely go top 10 when the album is released.
Mariah isn't coming off a monster album so there wasn't much built-up demand for her first single this time around. I don't think anyone expected it to match the 130 million impressions that Touch My Body logged at its peak.
