Man oh man when I was a kid Donna & The Bee Gees were like Gods! I can still remember that Saturday Night Fever album, when you opened it they had photos of the movie and kinda dance steps John Travolta did! I remember practicing those moves and then asking my mom to watch me

and what about that Red Cow record label from the 1970's I forget the name of the company, but when I saw that on like 90% of the disco era music, I so wanted to grow up and perform on the record label. The original Bad Boy in my mind when I was 6 years old

Not one of my favs and not sure if I like it that such a manufactured movie soundtrack became one of her signature songs over many of her much better tracks...

some interesting trivia about "Last Dance".....

*The song was recorded in the summer of 1977,a full year before it was released.It was probably intended for Donna's 'Once Upon A Time' album,which came out in the fall,but Casablanca heard it and decided to save it for a new movie they were preparing ('After Dark',which was later changed to 'Thank God It's Friday').

Well I doubt it could have got that much of an attention without the movie and the awards etc...

No the song became a hit on its own. That movie BOMBED!

But somehow "Last Dance" not only got a Grammy Award for Best R&B Female Vocal Performance for Donna but Paul Jabara won a fucking Oscar for Best Song for the shit.

Not even the Bee Gees got Oscars for "Saturday Night Fever".

Okay I didn't know the movie bombed, but I did know some thought the awards this song received were a consolation for ignoring SNF a year earlier...

Exactly....Although the film Thank God It's Friday is an ALL TIME fave of mine. I've always loved that film. I remember clear as day going to see this film when it first opened with my mom. I wanted to go see it because Donna and The Commodores were in it! I've always liked this film better than Saturday Night Fever, which as a film is cool but it's somewhat of a downer. That lil' short motherfucker with those 6' inch heels bugging the shit out of Tony AND Tony's priest brother about abortion. Damn, why didn't Tony just call lil' man back like he said. Then he wouldn't have fucked around and fell off the bridge. Certainly what made that film was the best soundtrack to ever be attached to a movie. TGIF is way more "fun" and lighthearted although it's silly as hell. I STILL love that movie though. The soundtrack is so so but the title track is bangin'.

I only watched the movie once and didn't care too much for it. I felt like I was watching a disco version of "The Love Boat".

Disco version of The Love Boat?!!!! Gawt damn!. I didn't think it was THAT bad. The dance club in the film was called Osko's. In the 90's, this same club became The Cat House, which was a rock hangout that I used to go to quite a bit.

'Thank God It's Friday' is a fun movie....a lighthearted look at the disco era.It gives you a glimpse at how much fun it was to hang out at discos in the late 70s,when disco was a way of life for many people.The film is filled with colorful characters,each one with their own "mission".They all had a goal that they were trying to accomplish.Notably,this film features several actors/actresses who became really famous just a few years later: Jeff Goldblum,Debra Winger,Terri Nunn of Berlin.Of course,Donna Summer and the Commodores experienced their greatest success a year after this film.

Unfortunately,this movie was a box office bomb when it was released in May 1978.The reviews were harsh,with one critic ending his review by saying "Thank God it's over!",lol.I admit,some of the humor falls flat,but I think this is a good movie.It makes me wish I had been an adult in the late 70s.The soundtrack is alot of fun two.A 3-LP set(!) containing many underrated gems and while it can't compete with the superior 'Saturday Night Fever' soundtrack,there are alot of great disco tunes throughout.A mix of Motown and Casablanca recording artists.
