The New Album is Finished October 2, 2009 Christina Aguilera may have finished work on her new album, but that doesn't mean she's rushing to get it into stores. Producer Tricky Stewart, who worked with Aguilera on the still-untitled album, reveals that she wants to film her new movie, "Burlesque," before she puts the LP out there. "The album is finished. She's mixing. She hasn't made a final decision about what the first single is, but I know everyone feels good about their options," he told Rapup.com. "She's gonna do the film first. She didn't want to not be able to promote this record because it's gonna be a big record for her." Stewart, who has worked with everyone from Beyoncé to Rihanna, thinks that this album, like so many of Aguilera's in the past, shows another side of the singer. "It's just great. I wouldn't say that it's alternative, I wouldn't say that it's different," Stewart explained. "Christina's always been an artist that moves the bar and that's what the great ones do. They don't stay in the same place for too long, and this album is just another move for her." As for collaborations, Aguilera has already talked about working with M.I.A. and Santigold on the album, but Stewart is revealing that she also hit the studio with another unexpected artist. "I know that there's a lot of other cool features, like I know that she has Santigold and Flo Rida on there," he said. "I put Flo Rida on my record because I love what he does. I think sometimes he doesn't get credit for being as dope as he is, but he's really dope." Aguilera went retro for her Back to Basics album, and she's already touched on her love of the future on her song "Keeps Getting Better." But according to Stewart, this album harks back to her work from seven years ago, when she went a bit raunchy. "I really feel it's one of her best bodies of work that I've heard since Stripped. I think it's really, really amazing and I think it's well put together," he said. "She's mixing it up again. She's singing R&B again, she's doing pop. She's doing it all, but she's found a way to make it all meet in the middle because she's so many different things." As for Aguilera's ability to change up her musical style, Stewart credits that to her natural abilities as a singer. "She's a real serious musician, she's a real serious pop artist, and she's a real serious singer," he said. "She's making all her audiences happy at the same time." http://www.mtv.com/news/a...tina.jhtml

I'm not a fan by any means, but her recent cover of John Lennon's 'Mother' surprised me.

Calluout said: Earlier today Christina Aguilera revealed on her radio station that she has enlisted the help of both Santigold & M.I.A. for her upcoming fourth studio album "Light & Darkness". Santigold singer/songwriter/producer is best known for her critically acclaimed self-titled debut album. Working with Aguilera won't be the first time that Santigold has teamed up with a mainstream pop artist, with the 32-year-old being responsible for penning Lily Allen's hit single "Littlest Things" and Ashlee Simpson's "Outta My Head" with Kenna. This will be the first time though that M.I.A. has worked with a pop artist before, though she did collaborate with Timbaland for his "Shock Value" album back in 2007. Aguilera also stated during the interview that she was in the process of "finishing up" the new album which she believes is her "best work" yet. She described her new collaborations as "the best of both worlds experimenting" and that she'll be showing off a different side to her vocals that we've never heard before. "Light & Darkness" is also set to feature contributions from Tricky Stewart, Ladytron, Claude Kelly, Steve Morales, Le Tigre, Sia, Linda Perry, Goldfrapp, and Diplo & Switch. It's currently due in stores early next year. Aguilera has gotten all these "indie" artists, but she's made sure that they aren't too indie, and she's mixed them with mainstream producers and writers. I'm a fan of hers but you just know she is gonna use their names for credibility and then take all the credit for creating her "new" sound herself, which will basically be THEIR sounds that she's dragged into the mainstream. It should be an amazing album tho. Just what she needs. Finally a POP act that really think, MIA, Santigold, Ladytron, Le Tigre, Goldfrapp, and Diplo & Switch are some of the most talented people out there, that's gonna be a monster album. By the way MIA worked with Myssy Elliot too. "I have so much love for Prince. But why don't they look at me that way"- MJ

I do enjoy some Christina music. She can certainly sing, and there's no denying that, whether someone likes the music or not. However, with the list of producers she's working with this time, and the two new songs from her last compilation CD/DVD set noted as being a preview of the work she has coming, I am hopeful that it will jet some freshness into today's stale music scene.
Today's music is like eating an unsalted saltine with a cup of almost-spoiled milk. She's not the savior of music, but she sure is a breath of fresh air when she puts something out lately. Back to Basics is a good set of music, although it could have been 1 long and strong disk, instead of 2 disks, IMO.
