I guess it depends on what area of Richmond you're living in. When me and my parents used to go up there (usually to visit my grandma), it was alright, at least the areas my family lived in. I had heard it was bad in some areas but compared to Richmond, California, their issues are probably peanuts compared to over there in Cali. My dad was from Richmond (though he was born in New York).
