My top 20 releases from the 00's....

20. TORI AMOS - ABNORMALLY ATTRACTED TO SIN
A decent follow-up to 2007's disappointing American Doll Posse album. A more darker edge than her recent work also.

19. JOHN LEGEND - ONCE AGAIN
I enjoyed his debut, thought his third album sucked, but this is bang on the money. More like this please...

18. VAN HUNT - POPULAR
Officially the most under-rated artist of the 00's. This is a great, off-beat funk/R&B album, which criminally never got a proper commercial release.

17. JANET JACKSON - DISCIPLINE
Whilst her 00's output has been patchy, this is a solid R&B/pop effort and should've been a bigger hit.

16. NICK CAVE AND THE BAD SEEDS - DIG LAZARUS DIG!!!
A great return to his manic, scary form.

15. SARAH SLEAN - DAY ONE
One of the best female singer/songwriters around. Her songwriting is excellent on this.

14. VELVET REVOLVER - LIBERTAD
Not as impressive as their debut, but it's still filled with some great riffs.

13. PRINCE - PLANET EARTH
Definately a return to form, following two mediocre albums. The title track and The One U Wanna C are my favourites.

12. KATE BUSH - AERIAL
King Of The Mountain was a fantastic comeback single, and the rest of the album is equally as great.

11. CHAKA KHAN - FUNK THIS
Not as good as Come 2 My House and a little too heavy on the covers, but still a great R&B/funk record from one of the best female vocalists around.

[b]10. TORI AMOS - SCARLET'S WALK
A wonderful conceipt album from the best songwriter alive today. Your Cloud and I Can't See New York give me goosebumps every time.

9. PRINCE - MPLSOUND
A fun, quirky, upbeat record... noway near as self-indulgent as much of his 00's output.

8. FOO FIGHTERS - ECHOES, PATIENCE, SILENCE AND GRACE
A great rock album with no fillers. Come Alive is pure heaven.

7. VELVET REVOLVER - CONTRABAND
One of my favourite rock albums of the 00's. Slash's riffs are amongst his best on this album.

6. MICHAEL JACKSON - INVINCIBLE
Whilst this album is definately not worthy of his incredible talent and the tracklisting is poorly thought-out, there are still some great tracks to be found. A disappointing MJ album is still better than many artists best work.

5. VAN HUNT - ON THE JUNGLE FLOOR
A wonderful R&B/rock/pop album... if there was any justice in the world this would've been HUGE.

4. NEIL YOUNG - LIVING WITH WAR
His best record in years. Astonishingly it was written in only ten days. The songs are brimming with passion.

3. DAVID BOWIE - HEATHEN
Who would've thought he had it in him after two decades of clunkers? What a wonderful achievement this album is.

2. GUNS N ROSES - CHINESE DEMOCRACY
Worth the wait. A brilliant rock album with some of the most insane guitar playing you'll ever hear. Could only be bettered if Slash were on it.

1. TORI AMOS - THE BEEKEEPER
A beautiful, moving, wonderful collection of songs which shows a very different side to Tori.

To show how out of touch I am with music from this decade, I have only heard of the Prince releases from this decade.

I also happen to disagree with your takes on Prince's albums (as I am sure many will). I enjoyed Musicology and 3121 much more than Planet Earth, but I must admit that PE is really starting to grow on me.

Here is my obviously PERSONAL list of favorites from 2000-today. Many of the 2007 and beyond releases will move up in the rankings I'm sure - but I just haven't lived with them long enough yet.

20.
MeShell NDegeocello - Comfort Woman. blunt

19.
Raphael Saadiq - as Ray Ray ...Has some nice elements... especially "I Love Her"

18.
Little Brother - Get Back ...This is some thoughtful hip-hop that you may not be hip to. "Good Clothes" is crucial.

17.
Kaskade - It's You, It's Me ...This cat - Ryan Raddon, is a hitmaker. Very melodic house-ish electronica. If you have pop sensibilities - you will most likely dig this.

16.
Prince - 3121 yes

15.
Chante Moore - Exposed ...Better Than Making Love is a hidden Flyte Tyme gem. ...Love's Still Alright = Chante at her best!

14.
DJ Quik - Balance and Options ...Includes his fantastic tribute to Roger Troutman - Roger's Groove.

13.
Van Hunt - Van Hunt ...Seconds of Pleasure!!!!

12.
Prince - LotusFlo3er ...I LOVE Colonized Mind!

11.
Prince - Rave in2 the Joy Fantastic ...I got mine in 2000. This second version of the Rave project was released on NPG and includes Beautiful Strange.

10.
Mint Condition - E Life ...Moan is a GREAT slow jam!

9.
Amy Winehouse - Back to Black ...Mostly ranked this high due to Love is a Losing Game

8.
Janet - Damita Jo ...always thought Island Life would have been a hit record.

7.
Prince - Planet Earth ... nod

6.
Janet - All For You ...When We Ooo & Feels So Right are songs I love.

5.
D'Angelo - VooDoo ...D'Angelo reaches me. ...Understood that he isn't for everyone - but for ME he owns four FIVE-STAR songs on this album. Devil's Pie, The Root, One Mo Gin, and Send it On are joints I never tire of hearing. Roy Hargrove is a huge part of this sound I like so much.

4.
Maxwell - Now ...Changed is my favorite on this album that many are critical of.

3.
John Legend - Get Lifted ...Upon introduction to Legend - I was a skeptic. But when I had this CD in my car - I found that I never had the urge to skip any tracks (rare for me). ...Favorite track is So High.

2.
Goapele - Change it All ...Strong songs on this slept-on release that was IMO buried by SONY. If you are not hip to Goapele - she is the rare artist that is deeply soulful as a singer and equally skilled as a lyricist. ...The music ranges from R&B (Find a Way), to Princely (Crushed Out), to New Wave-ish (Love Me Right). ...The funky and organic 4 am includes maybe my favorite musical bridge of the 00's (guitar players - check it out). As a bonus - her first hit "Closer" - a Northern California anthem, is also included on this release.

1.
Raphael Saadiq - Instant Vintage ...Funky basslines and great guests in T-Boz, D'Angelo, and Angie Stone make this release my current favorite of the decade. Uptown, Faithful, Body Parts, Tick-Tock, Different Times, & Charlie Ray are just some of the great and diverse tunes on the double-album (single cd).
