Jam/Lewis vs Babyface/LA Reid

Which do you like better?

I like both but Jam/Lewis more.

Jam and Lewis by a million miles. Jam and Lewis were absolutely great in the 1980s. In the late 80s, LA and Babyface were decent but they sounded like a weaker watered down version of Jam and Lewis.

Of course in the 1990s, they were all horrible. Jam and Lewis went to shit hop and LA and Babyface went to adult contemporary.

The Deele was trying to be a more smoother, more suave version of The Time. And it was obvious that Babyface and L.A were pattering themselves after Jam & Lewis. But in this contest, Jimmy and Terry all the way.

Yep, I know you saw them on Soul Train with Pebbles pretending to be Jimmy & Terry while Pebbles was doing her best "Janet". lol

I'll go with LA & Babyface.

I think they have had more hits with a larger variety of artist
where Jam & Lewis who've also produced alot of folks as well have really had there biggest success with Janet Jackson. plus I think Laface records was more successful than Perspective records. So again .....LA & Face

(FACE BEING ABLE TO SING MAY HAVE GIVEN HIM AN EDGE WITH ME )

As far as groups go .....I'll give it to the Time.

co-sign...

Talkin about variety, they both worked with artists from different music styles...

Only prob with Face and Reid is that their work tend to sound the same (same chords structure and progression...) so that whenever I hear a song, I can teli " Aw, it is a Face/Reid tune, whereas Jam and Lewis often try new stuff and sounds (Rock, dance, Pop, R&B, slow jams...). But both made some of the greatest songs of the past 25 years or so...

Yeah, this is a tough one but I'm gonna go with LA and Babyface.

Does anyone remember in the summer of '92 when there was a "friendly competition" thing going on with both camps? Both teams produced a movie soundtrack for films that were being released that summer: 'Boomerang' (LA and Babyface) and 'Mo Money' (Jam and Lewis). The media tried to make it a competition, lol.

Both sides used the heavy artillery.Jam and Lewis brought Janet Jackson and Luther Vandross on board for their soundtrack, but I think La and Face won this battle lol the 'Boomerang' soundtrack is superior.

Jam and Lewis for sure. They did a lot of timeless songs. I love LA and Face, but Jam and Lewis wrote more memorable songs to me.

And Johnny Gill had songs on both soundtracks...Your right, I would take "Boomerang" over more money any day.

Jam and Lewis for me. They were more diverse and took more risks than La/Face IMO. Regardless of who had more hits, Jam/Lewis songs are more memorable and classic to me.

That's questionable. The comparison should stop after 1993 because LA/Face broke up as a production team around that time.

Didn't Jam & Lewis have more pop hits? (Makes sense considering they were together longer)

I absolutely love both. I'd say Jam & Lewis were better producers but LA & Babyface were better songwriters. I guess I'd pick LaFace if I were forced to choose; thankfully, I'm not.

Boomerang was definitely better than Mo' Money.

Depends on the genre, the artist, the song...of the 4, three had talent:
Harris, Lewis and Edmonds...Reid is the luckiest vaginal eater in the world.
He rode of off Babyface's creativity and became mega rich, and he has zero talent. He was a sub-par drumnmer and his biggest claim to fame was his womanizing, whore-mongering and cunninglingus skills...ask Shanice Wilson how she went into his office and turned it upside down - kind of like the Anita Baker vs. Sylvia Rhone catfight some years back

I pulled this cd out last week. It wasn't as good as I remember from 91, but still pretty good. "Right Down To It" and the remix to "Exclusivity" were so damn good.

Just think, if it wasn't for Damian Dame...we never would have gotten the debut of Jermaine Dupri. He has said that doing the remix for "Gotta Learn My Rhythm" was his big break in the industry.

Oh, the album is uneven at best, but the singles are fantastic. I love both versions of "Exclusivity."

I know. nod He did a good job with it, too. I have it on vinyl, but it's too damn expensive on CD.
