The System - "Good As Gold"

This is a track from thier last album ESP, released in June, 2000.
The album flopped, but this song is a gem!
Mic Murphy and David Frank had a GREAT sound. They were so underrated.

If the rest of the album sounds like that then I'm sold love

I try as much as I can to avoid newer albums from "funk" artists mainly because their individuality gets stripped down for the sake of getting an airplay,,,at some LOCAL station, mind you.

But I'm def gonna get that album, T4P thumbs up!

It's funny that U mentioned The System today of all days. I made a new mix last night for my morning run and they were in it. I still think that they're second album "Pleasure Seekers" was their best. But I don't think they released anything that I didn't like. The System will always have my respect and I'd go see them if they ever popped up for a show or two.

If you haven't heard their X-periment-album yet then it's worth to check, and that's actually their second album :

Yeah, Sass is a classic joint with a Slave-vibe to it. I'm still curious how the singles sound when they were called The Jack Sass Band in the 70's, and when they recorded again under that name after "Much Too Much", and without Mic Murphy i guess lol :

wow so mic murphy was is this band in the 70's? he must have been a teenager. i will dfeinitely get this when it comes out. i am a huge fan of The system. I have all of their albums. Xperiment is my fave. that album is genius! they get no props these days but they are incredible to me. they had it all, pop, funk, rock and quirkiness! that ESP album does not do it for me at all though. too slow and ordinary but man i wish they would re-form and put out some more great music! also mic murphy is fine!!

I thought i'd have lesser possibility to web-connection when out of my house, though i managed to get some connection at moments.
I'm checking this weekend the between-stage of how the plastering in my house goes, so can do some browsing as well lol.

What i wanted to reply with is that i'm feeling as hyped as you described lol. I just appreciate so much these more independent reissue-companies who dig up really rare stuff.
I've seen on ebay before how crazy it can get among collectors when a rare recording like this appears for sale.
In case that only the original pressing of the Sass Band-album was auctioned on ebay, them i'm almost shure it would've been sold for a MAJOR amount.
Did you see on the popsike-links for how much the Sass singles were sold ? lol That's why i embrace a company who makes it available & payable for more listeners.

Another sort of same project from which previously their work was planned to come out but eventually was never released is the Glass Pyramid,
so together with the Sass Band, those 2 are really a surprise that they appear online as a release :

Lol, i got indeed carried away with the Glass Pyramid release, but Mic Murphy from The System started as singer in the 70's with the (Jack) Sass Band. You can see him pictured on the far-right of the posted picture-single.

I thought the ESP album sounded really demo/incomplete but the hooks and melodies were there fo sho on Say A Prayer, Love's Deja Vu, & Soul Food. ...I thought their single from ESP - Heaven in Your Eyes was a little too similar to Bone Thugs N Harmony (but I love the mood, and I always have appreciated Mic's lyrics - when he takes his time.)
