can you lypsynch while your band is playing live

on many occasions Michael Jackson had lypsynch
while band was playing live.
so how can you adjust the level of recorded vocals with live band playing to sound perfect and in synch with the band?

i think you can set up pre-recorded tracks to include or exclude just about any part of a band you choose.

Yes. For a highly choreographed tour, the bands all play to cues and click tracks pretty much either way.

That's why they have rehearsals. If a band is playing live and the singer uses a pre-recorded track, the guy running the soundboard syncs the vocals to play on beat with the band.

are you going to say that lypsynch vocal parts aren't backed with live band?

most of the time the drummer gets a feed in his ear with the beat or the click track that keeps him at the speed the rest of the show is set too. i would imagine any show that uses any kind of projection on giant screens and stuff would have to relie on a click track.

I'm not going to pay good money to watch lip synching. Might as well stay home and play the cds.

I want to see the artist actually sing.

That's exactly it. It's why boy bands like Nsync can stand in one position for what seems forever, then suddenly all move with the band hit at the exactly same time. They're hearing a beat or a metronome or something similar in their ear pieces. That's the major plus of ear monitors. Every single person can have a totally different mix in their ears.

It's why Prince can play "Jam of the Year" and "Face Down" live, and all the samples and otherwise are exactly in place. It's the classic "backing track". It's also why people like Britney sing their songs in the exact same tempo and key without any variation every single night. It's all on a track. The band is playing along to other parts. It's also why the NPG in the mid 90's had such a HUGE sound, but there were only 2 keyboard players, a bass, and Prince on guitar. A LOT of the other stuff was on a backing track, and the band played with it.

It's also why you hear Prince's background vocals on tour, (Like on the VH1 Emancipation special, etc), because all that shit is lined up. It's not all sampled in a keyboard. It's too much for any keyboard player to remember these days. The artist can have a few keyboard parts, to their vocals with the band playing along with it.

I feel like even though they may lip sing you can also hear them really singing. I saw N'sync live and though they were lip singing, I could also hear their voices..and I was really close to the stage too or maybe I'm just tweaking.

Some people did lip or sing along to their track while the band played live on "Soul Train".

As said above, there is an automated click track that everything is synched to, including the live stuff.

So some stuff can be taped, some programmed, and some live, all based on the click (tempo) track.
