Lil Kristina DeBarge, the daughter of James DeBarge, is doing big things nowadays. She is only 19 and is the spokesmodel for Baby Phat shoes and she recently released her debut album called, Exposed. Her music is not the business, so how did she get here???

No, just her name

The original Debarge family had the talent and the light skin

she was co-hosting 106 & Park a couple of days ago and asked mariah what advice she would give her to start off in this indusrty,

mariah looked at her for a minute and was like: girl you're a DEBARGE why you asking ME?

She got signed because of family ties. That being said I'm surprised a DeBarge can get a deal yet and release an album yet the Jacksons struggle to release material.

The Jacksons had the talent and the dark skin. And all of them (barring Rebbie, LaToya, Randy, & [for now] Janet) are in the R&RHOF.

Just on her last name, the light skin part is a bit of reach.If she was dark and still part of that debarge family,I think she would still get a deal.If only she could sing like any of her elder family members

She can't sing regardless, but we should at least get her name right

I can't speak too much about this little girl because I don't know much about her music. But at least with her elders, you see them getting out on the street and hustling for gigs; the play churches, festivals, and participate in press activities just to keep their names out there, if not as big stars, then at least as working musicians who know how to draw on their nostalgia factor. Kristania, was doing the talent show round before in to get her name out there and expand on the family brand, and her cousins are all over the video and blog. What Jackson do you know (other than Tito) is actually going to get off their rusty butts and go do small shows rooms like BB King's, Yoshi's, House of Blues, or The Roxy?









Not N'AN one of 'em. Because these mofos have such an overinflated sense of I don't know what, they always speak in terms stage arenas and glory days past. If it ain't 20,000 seats at a Target, Nokia,or O2 arena they don't seem to be down with playing.

Meanwhile, you got people hungrier for it, will play church, city picnics, holiday concerts, and actually work at staying visible. There is no damn reason in the world for Jackie Jackson to have as an incredible falsetto as he does, and not to have put out some baby makin' slow jams and get his ass booked on Tom Joyner's Fantastic Voyage to play for all those rich black folk....but neewwwwwooooo. They all sittin' up in Encino under they damn momma waitin' for her to cook pot roast

This girl might be the most non-sangin'-est chile to come along for a minute,but at least she's been out there pounding the pavement at her young age. I guess we'll just have to chalk her up to being "the LaToya" of the DeBarge clan, though.

Oh, and you know Jermaine was over here on this side of the pond last weekend. He performed at some random made up awards event in a large arena. Naturally they did a tribute Michael with him singing Smile, and joining in on We Are The World. It was a disaster. To begin with, it rained, so everyone was in formal awards ceremony attire, all soaking wet. Although they did have people next to him holding umbellas over his head. Then the sound engineer was making mistakes left an right, half the time he was performing without being properly miked & the sound went out constantly. He missed his cue on We Are The World and forgot the 2nd verse, going straight into the chorus. Then to add insult to injury, his mike accidentally went out, and someone else took over the song for the rest of the finale.... now see, all that rippin' and runnin' to these arena events, and it turned out to be a hot, steaming mess. Betcha they'd have his sound right if he played the Tom Joyner Family Reunion or the Budweiser Superfest

the only song i know from her is fucking awful, yo . her and jay-z both sampling that old song. both lame as fuck, imo . she ain't bad looking, but still...

For The Jacksons, it's kinda hard because expectations are high for them

Remember 3T? Rebbie's son's is signed to Geffen or Interscope and he was supposed to release his debut 2 years ago

Some of them said "fuck it, we're going independent or going into another part of the field"


Tito's son is a songwriter
Marlon and Jackie's son are rappers and have released mixtapes
Randy's daughter is a singer and does shows and showcases in SoCal
Randy's OTHER daughter is an actress and was on contract with Disney (and you know Disney money is good money )
Rebbie's daughter does music

But alot of them wanted to do it but execs were like "Is your Aunt Janet gonna be on it", "Is your Uncle Michael involved?"

It's hard to get a deal, imagine the expectations because your uncle is Michael Jackson

The brothers, it's a double edged sword. The whole "Nobody wants to see the Jacksons without Michael" attitude may have fucked them up

Chico's cd is doing nicely-it is number 15 on billboard's rnb chart and since he is a partner with his record label, he doesn't have to worry about his pocket. And his tour with Joe is going well.

re Kristinia, she can sing live-I posted her american juniors appearance and she has pipes. Besides, there are 50 million Debarge grandkids-some of 'em have to have talent.

And one thing about Debarge-they are MUSICIANS, first and foremost. They are not as well known as the Jacksons because they are not flashy entertainers like the Jacksons. With Debarge, the music and the writing always came first. That family grew up in the CHURCH-you can't fake that talent. You better be able to SANG. The Jacksons didn't grow up in church like that. Yes, MJ was a superstar and rightly so and yes Janet is a superstar, but every last member of the Debarge family could sing, write and play an instrument and they can STILL lay it down. Not so sure the Jacksons can say that. so on a pure musician level, I give to Debarge over the Jacksons as a whole.

I think it's safe to say the Kristina got a record deal because of her family name. But it's all the flip of the coin who does or who doesn't get advantages coming out of the gate, such is life. I'm sure MJ's children would be given the same advantage whether they could sing a note or not. Either way the music business like politics isn't bean bag and if you can't make a go of it, you'll find your Cd/music in the 1$ wasted bin, second hand music stores (if you are lucky), or not in print at all.

The DeBarge's aren't as well known principally because they self-destructed. Sad, tragic, but true.

I don't think her skin color had anything to do with it, but she is a Debarge.
