30 Greatest Funk Bands of All-Time? Got the idea from my other thread, and the P-Fun/Isleys thread.
So, who are the 30 Greatest Funk Bands to ever do it? Maybe this one will be more successful than my last? http://prince.org/msg/8/315446 PRINCE: Always and Forever

@ BT Express, War and The Stone City Band. Oh but of course.
Might as well add in James Brown's funk bands (JBs and James Brown Orchestra).

Can we all agree that JB is the greatest, or is the debate up for discussion? P-Funk, Sly or another band? Who.s number 1? PRINCE: Always and Forever

James Brown's the illest, baddest, greatest, funkiest, etc., etc. P-Funk and Sly are his little brothers and the Isleys distant cousins.

Can't believe you guys forgot about Earth Wind and Fire and Tower of Power. Boy don't let Prince read this, you know these are two of his favorite groups Prince believes he is a musical prophet that has been chosen by Jehova to guide his fans to the "truth".

Tower of Power is a good one but people are still questionable about Earth, Wind & Fire. Why do you consider EWF questionable? Just curious. I always considered them funk. Prince believes he is a musical prophet that has been chosen by Jehova to guide his fans to the "truth".

They don't Funk all the time (just like Isley, ect) but they Funk. I agree. People need to check out their early albums (cds now LOL). My father has a 3 album set that was released as one album in the early 70s. I used to play it on our family record player. It is so funky. Two funk jams from that album are "Fan the Fire" and "Help Somebody". It also has a great slow jam "Think About Lovin You". There are other great songs as well. Most people tend to associate them with their late 70s and early 80s disco period but they did and can funk. All that soapy soul and disco stuff tends to make people (incl. me) forget how sick some of those were back in the early 70s. EWF released some rock hard funk classics, just like the Commodores for example. Speaking of the Commodores, Machine Gun is my cut, one of the nastiest funk jams ever recorded IMO.

Boy i slap you for forgettin bout Brass Construction. They had a nasty ass brass section. Randy Muller was the man. Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint

Its really sad that a lot of those groups watered their sound down. The worst IMO was Kool and the Gang. Prince believes he is a musical prophet that has been chosen by Jehova to guide his fans to the "truth".
