A lot of MJ influence in this song and video (Kelly does a move straight out of Thriller at one stage). They're all stunning here love

It's boring to me, the song needs energy.

I'm sure the little girls were fine, what girl doesn't like dressing up?

How is there a lot of MJ influence on this track when the entire song is constructed from a Stevie Nicks sample? LOL.

Didn't you know Michael Jackson has influenced every song written and every artist out there. Without him there would have been no music.

Eh, sure you're not talking about Prince here? I see P fans doing the same thing all the time acting like he created everything in music. I don't think that's what the OP meant though. The song itself isn't MJ influenced obviously, but the video, fashion and dance moves clearly are Michael influenced. I always knew "Bootylicious" contained or was based on a Stevie Knicks sample, but from the first time I saw that video I thought of MJ too.

The way music is today, i would NOT want to give michael any credit for that. He is soo amazing I miss my baby michael jackson. I have been having lots of dreams about him lately.

Nope I’m definitely referring to Michael Jackson fans.

Have you read some of his fans posts after his death?

- Why isn't the President commenting on his death?
- Why hasn't MTV dedicated the whole year of programming to him?
- Why hasn't Prince issued a statement on his death?
- Why is Janet Jackson getting on with her life?
- Why hasn't (INSERT NAME HERE) or (INSERT NAME HERE) said what a truly great man he was?

Shall I tell you why? Because not everyone in this world was a fan of Michael Jackson!!!!!

(Please note: That isn't my opinion, I am a casual fan who enjoys listening to his back catalogue from time to time)

One scene contains an MJ reference, and then there are the hats. That's about it. I guess I'm just not really seeing it. shrug

Well Beyonce did say that when she wrote it lyrically she was wanting to add little trademark MJ licks - the breath, the "dah" the "heeeee".

And visually the girls pay homage with moves and styling from both Billie Jean and Thriller.

LOL! Please. It's not my problem if indeed you weren't aware of the sample. I suggest you go listen to Edge of Seventeen. The people on this thread who know what is being sampled agree - there is no MJ influnce on the song itself, unless MJ was somehow Stevie Nicks in 1981. Bitch is even in the video. How can there be "a lot" of his influence on the track if it's built around a sample from another artist whose music is totally unrelated?

The video is a different matter.

Yep, Beyonce herself talked about the MJ theme throughout this video in an interview. I remember she was gushing all over herself crediting Mike as the one who most influenced her in music.

Yes it samples Stevie Nicks (not Survivor as some people said at the time), but there are lyrical hooks that Beyonce put in to pay homage to Michael - she often said this at the time. From the start when Kelly is singing Beyonce is doing all little Michael hiccups and "dahs" and as the song progresses they throw in the "heeeees" etc.

Musically no it doesn't reference MJ, but vocally it is there and deliberately so.

lol. You n I both know who she was MOST influenced by. She said it enough. WOW, how can you guys still be jealous of Mike!!!???? Mike's gone. Insane for real. If it had been Prince instead of Mike, I'd sing Prince's praises to the hilt. Bye, I'm outta here. Shakes head.

this was the performance that made me LOVE DC, well minus Michelle she's flat in the performance but Kelly and B served it up. Still think Kelly is the better of the two.
