This was her first major weight loss period, and she rocked it steady..when she was on - there wasn't female who could touch her vocally...it is sad that the once greatest female singer of all-time has been reduced to a mere shell of what she once was nowadays - her voice is fairly shot (due to chain smoking Kool cigarettes for damn near 44 years)it only shows glimpses on rare occasions of its once flawless pitch, soars, squalls, and melismas..always a odd dresser - she wears things that extra large big boobed women like herself should not be caught dead in, but all in all I guess that is what makes her unique - it is what it is and that's Aretha, the one and only Queen of Soul, flawed, huge, tacky, ghetto, and world-wide adored, even though she hasn't left the continent of North America since 1983 (due to a crippling fear of flying),,,forget all the bullshit, cop AMAZING GRACE -THE COMPLETE CD, LET ME IN YOUR LIFE, YOUNG GIFTED AND BLACK and SPARKLE and you will immediately see why she is the it - if you like the hit singles, then cop any of the best of, greatest hits compilations..

I saw Sista Franklin in concert (in '07) and she sounded damn good to me. As far as the weigh gain- Yes, it's unhealthy but if Sista Franklin doesn't have any issue with it, I sure don't.

Thanks for posting this Timmy. Gotta love that bass riff.... my, my. cool

Yeah that bass riff is something else. As for Aretha vocal-wise now, she can still hang. nod

I thought she started off small & stayed small initially? hmmm I was a kid so I really don't know but I always had the impression that she didn't start putting on weight until the 80's or maybe late 70's smile

No she has battled with weight her entire career. After she quit smoking in 1992, she really balooned. Now she is beyond plump - she is a Lake Michigan whale.LOL

I've seen videos of her performances between 1971 and 1976, she kept ballooning up and going down during that period. I think she had a yo-yo diet then. Same during her 1960s phase. I often wonder if she has diabetes.

Those were the days! What a funky tune! The bass is poppin', Aretha sounding flawless. What more can you want?

She makes it look easy too. Nowadays divas think people won't respect them if they don't make it look like they're having an epileptic seizure onstage.

This beat kicks so much ass! Truly one of the best songs she has ever done.

I love the personal groove she cuts while she’s totally dominating the vocals with seemingly effortless mastery.

Like with anything, when you show such absolute proficiency, you make it look possible for everyone, even though it’s probably not doable by anyone.

Ms. Franklin has never been a "small" women. I think it was 1974 (if not earlier) when Franklin lost all the weight and kept it off for a bit, Ebony did a pictorial/interview and she spoke about how she lost it. Sista Franklin was wearing Bob Mackie stuff and everything. lol
