Does MTV still even exist? Let me guess Lauren Conrad is going to host or some other MADE celebrity that means nothing

Kanye never has got me watching anything for ratings so I'll happily miss it if he even attends.

2002? i think its more like 1986, right when Eddie Murphy hosted that award show, i never will forget it, he was on Letterman and Letterman said, "mtv is up for sale" and Eddie said "they sold it" and they flashed over to a SUIT in the corner who said "yeah its gone" NO KIDDING its gone

that was the beginning of the end, so despite the videos still hanging on through various phases of music, music became NOTHING but business at that point, Soundscam took over a few years later and they all were in Bed together, writing was on the wall then but no one was reading, now when they look around, the public got what they deserve

You can probably place the blame on the "Thriller" phenomenon. After its videos virtually put MTV out of its commercial death bed, MTV stopped let it be about the music and only promote it to become a corporate brand.

Oh yeah i know no one likes to hear it, but the blame goes on everyone from that era, MJ,Prince,Madonna etc...they started it, so, its not a slight on them, because they obviously had the goods, but the issue is now everyone is trying to rehash their shadows, and its coming off as nothing but a re-hash, and re-hashes do nothing for the growth of the genres.

Yeah I definitely don't think they're to blame, they were the messengers. MTV's fallout was trying to find the next "Thriller", the next "Like a Prayer", the next "Rhythm Nation".

Sucks! I can't believe how much the VMA's have gone down hill. At one time, the VMA's were my favorite award show but I haven't enjoyed the show since 2002. I guess it's not all their fault though, the state of (mainstream) music is not what it once was and the show reflects that.
"And When The Groove Is Dead And Gone, You Know That Love Survives, So We Can Rock Forever" RIP MJ heart

"Baby, that was much too fast"...Goodnight dear sweet Prince. I'll love you always heart

They should've been canceling it tho. It ceased to be a music channel for decades now as lastdecember pointed out. lol

I dont know, believe it or not Britney wasnt an award FAVE till last year, when MTV begged her to be on the show and give them ratings, so they gave her token award wins

Or two. lol I'm being modest. I won't be shocked if they don't give her shit. I'm just waiting to see that just so I can go on one of those Destiny's Child hating blogs talking about it. lol
