Is anyone into Charlie Wilson of the Gap Band?

There goes my baby - it has an old school feel to it...

Homeless

Some of the songs on this album "Uncle Charlie" are pretty good... music

I wished he would have stayed old school style!

I like his solo stuff, but LOVE his Gap Band stuff. I don't care for his new album much, but I really liked his last album, "Charlie, Last Name Wilson".

His first two solo albums were good ironically not chart toppers.
You Turn My Life Around and Bridging the Gap

His latter two solo albums First Name Charlie, Last Name Wilson
and Uncle Charlie not so good imo.

Oh I thought I was the only person who noticed that. biggrin But back to the topic his new material is mostly bad. I worry that the new Time record is going to go in this same direction.

It's just a song the man is married and battling prostate cancer. Charlie is not trying to pick up girls at the mall! Nobody really lives their lyrics... confused

Then why do them? I'm sure Ron Isley don't live his lyrics either. Are they just doing it as favors to the guys producing them? lol Just saying, ya know?

I swear when Ron finally leaves jail next April, I surely hope he don't return to that shit! He has a great legacy, don't keep tarnishing it by having songs titled "Forever Mackin'". lol That's why I threw out the "Baby Makin' Music" album. That destroyed the entire album for me, that and JD screaming on "I Just Wanna Be You". They actually had some great ballads where there was no "macking" lyrics. lol Odd they weren't saying that "macking" shit in the '70s. lol Though they did have a "pimp" flair about them clothes-wise. lol

No not Gap Band type funk but nice quality uptempo songs and
ballads. First album featured the song Sprung on Me. It was
directed at all the new jackers who adopted the Gap Band sound
i.e Guy and Bobby Brown with My Perogative. It also featured
Charlie's Jam which was a parody of Guy's Teddy's Jam, Come Into
My Love Life,Realize, and the title track You Turned My Life Around.
Very good album i think you would like.
I don't think you would like the second album as much just
because of guest appearances from Case,Marc Nelson,Angie Stone
and Snoop Dogg. The former three are actually good. My favorite
songs from the album are the single Without You(nice ballad),
Charlie's Angel(my favorite solo track from him), uptempo songs
Absolutely, Now ya sayin bye, and Him or Me.
Just for you Vainandy, Charlie included Outstanding on this
cd as a hidden track. lol
After these two albums he started working with R.Kelly and that
shit sealed the deal for me. Not feelin it.

Yeah that was Rudolph and O'Kelly. Back to Ronald. On the latter day
Isley albums what pissed me off most of the material didn't even give
Ernie a chance to shine on guitar like he did in the 70's and the
whole Body Kiss album was basically an R.Kelly album. I'm glad i
didn't purchase it and a friend burned it for me. The Eternal album
was okay. Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis produced some nice tracks on it
as well as Raphael Saadiq. I didn't even bother with Baby Makin Music.
Ronald Isley was far too gone for my taste by then. I'm afraid to ask
but did his wife have his baby. She was supposedly pregnant before he
went to prison.
eek

Yeah they have a three-year-old son, I believe.

Yeah Rudy & Kelly definitely were "the pimps". It was Rudy who held the "classic" Isley cane before he gave one of his canes to Ron for him to use. Rudy probably still uses the cane when he's preaching. lol

He needs to use it to whup Ronnie's ass and tell him to stop dressing
like a retired pimp and remind him he's 60 something and not 20 something.

His new single is "Can't Live Without You". "There Goes My Baby" was released early this year.

To be honest, he probably had to in order to survive. He did a couple of solo albums in the 90s as well as some Gap Band albums and they didn't sell.

I'm sure it was either that or continue doing the same shows for the next 10 or 20 years (like Maze).
