That's what some have called "today's R&B". lol

Exactly. lol

That's why I hate that category. They put decent music in the same category with the generic, assembly line noise on the radio these days.

I love the music of both groups. But my vote goes to The O'Jays.

y'all need to quit. lol

but i should have put the Spinners up against the O'Jays. Bros. Johnson still kicks ass. they had melody, funk, and disco wrapped up in sexiness.

Get the Funk Outta Ma Face.

Come On!!!!! These dudes were the shiznit!!!!

I like the O'Jays but only like 3 songs did it for me. The one I posted and Forever Mine as well as For the Love of Money. The rest be aiight!!

Not compared to the O'Jays. "Let Me Make Love To You" and "Stairway To Heaven" kill anything that The Brother's Johnson made.

Besides, these guys are 2 different types of groups. BJ weren't really known for singing. They just made good songs. Whereas the O'Jays were known for their vocal abilities.

That's why it's an unfair comparison. It's alright that you don't dig the O'Jays but they're in the Hall of Fame for good reasons. wink

brothers johnson should have been too. bawl

I'd rather see them inducted for their musicianship moreso than their vocal abilities.

that's what i love about them. I've a soft spot for musicians anyway mushy
I actually dig BJ vocals and while the O'Jays have a more gospel feel the BJ are still soulful IMO. I tend to lump 70s/80s soul and R&B into one category.

Wrong! Those are great songs but "Get The Funk Out Ma Face" and "Ain't We Funkin' Now" kill anything the O'Jays ever made. The Brothers Johnson was funk and funk beats anything. lol Even when The O'Jays made an uptempo jam like "I Love Music" or "Put Your Hands Together", it was good, but it wasn't hard like The Brothers Johnson.

The O'Jays could whip The Brothers Johnson's ass with the slow jams, but like I said before, funk beats anything, any time, any place, and anywhere. lol

I know u like the funk more....nothing wrong with that, but as for singers, the O'Jays can beat the BJ ass.

Thank you! lol

Let's compare a song from BJ like "Treasure" or "Is It Love That We're Missing" to any ballad that the Ojay's have done and tell me what you think?

On the other hand, if you compared "For The Love of Money" or "Give The People What They Want" to "Get The Funk Out My Face" or "Stomp" then, BJ would win.

Right. It's like comparing filet mignon to pork chops. lol It's a preference thing especially comparing their dance songs to their ballads. The O'Jays definitely beat 'em in the latter department. nod But they've had great dance songs too ("I Love Music", "Living for the Weekend", etc.).

It's the fault of the thread starter for not asking a more specific question.

If THIS was about "singing", the O'Jays got my vote anyway.
If THIS was about "music" or "composing", The Brothers Johnson deserves a voter recount!

Hey read the original posts. vocals and composing are covered. I happen to prefer the singing and the music of BJ over O'Jays. I like them both but if I had to listen to one group non-stop it would be the BJ. Plus I think they are sexier ( another category).

so basically you've tied them? one point each. falloff

Oh please! rolleyes THE only time The Brothers Johnson had crossover-pop appeal (beside Stomp!) is when they were behind the scenes studio musicians for Michael Jackson. Otherwise, they were too funky for the pop charts anyway. cool
