What do you mean, they both released there debut albums in 78? You mean by Rick being older and making records since the mid-60s (with no success)?

Because the music industry sucks ass.

I don't actually know of anyone at all who likes either of these dudes, all I see on the net is hatred for them, yet they continue to sell somehow.

Well actually after 1999, thanks to MTV and the second leg of his American tour in 1983. But close enough for government work. wink

Platinum status and record sells mean nothing. The example I always use is that LL Cool J went double platinum with 'Bad' back in the day, while Eric B and Rakim's 'Paid In Full' were released at the same time, and they only went gold I believe.

Fast forward to today, and nobody really talks about 'Bad' but 'Paid In Full' is regarded by many as the greatest Hip-Hop album ever. So you can't judge someones work by how many units it sells. Hell, Canibus may be viewed as the greatest lyricist ever in 2109, lol , time will tell the final story.
Lady Cab Driver is one of the greatest songs ever!

Record sales is not a real measure of artistic ability (talent).
More importantly is who will pay $35.00 or more to see you in concert after the hits stop coming. Acts like Soulja Boy Tellem, etc. are novelty - they wear off with time. He shoou;d try getting an education, acting (grrr) or being a male club stripper, sicne he seems to prefer being half-nude all the time in pics with dudes like Bow Wow and his lil sidekick fella.
Five years from now, he will be on 'Whatever happened to Soulja Boy?'

All Souljia Boy has to do is say what he did that morning over a over hyped beat. And people will go CRAZY!

Sad...but true. lol And funny at the same time.

I saw a Lil´Wayne video on TV the other day and I couldn´t believe how bad and simplistic the lyrics were. He was standing on a car, riding through Las Vegas at night, pretending to play guitar eek and kept mumbling something about "Shawty wanna hug, Shawty wanna thug, bottles in tha club...bottles in tha club." blah blah blah.....the song had barely any lyrics at all, he was just mumbling some random shit all the time and his people were having a party.

The beat was VERY simplistic.

The whole thing was sooooo corny and bad ( bad not meaning good lol that I had to google the lyrics because I couldn´t believe how poor the whole song was...the lyrics were...well, not really lyrics, just some random shit .)

Here are the "lyrics":

[Intro: Lil Wayne] + [Static Major]
Uh huh, No homo, Young Moolah baby
I said he so sweet, make her wanna lick the rapper
So I let her lick the rapper
[She lick me like a lollipop - 4X]

[Chorus 2X: Static Major]
Shawty want a thug
Bottles in the club
Shawty wanna hump
You know I like to touch her lovely lady lumps

[Lil Wayne]
Okay, lil mama had a swag like mine
She even wear her hair down her back like mine
I make her feel right when it's wrong like lying
Man, she ain't never had a move like mine
But man, I ain't never seen an ass like hers
That pussy in my mouth had me lost for words
So I told her to back it up like burp, burp
And made that ass jump like jerp, jerp
And that's when she

[Pre-Chorus: Static Major]
She lick me like a lollipop - 4X

[Chorus]

[Lil Wayne]
Now after you back it up and stop
Drop it shawty, drop it like its hot
Ooh, drop it like its hot
Do it shawty, don't stop
Shawty say the nigga that she wit ain't shit
Shawty say the nigga that she wit ain't this
Shawty say the nigga that she wit can't hit
But shawty, I'ma hit it hit it like I can't miss
And he can't do this, and he don't do that
Shawty need a refund, need to bring that nigga back
Just like a refund, I make her bring that ass back
And she bring that ass back cause I like that

[Chorus]

[Lil Wayne]
She wanna lick lick lick lick me like a lollipop - 2X
Shawty wanna lick me
So I let her lick the rapper

[Chorus]

[Static Major - 4X]
Call me so I can make it juicy for ya
Call me so I can get it juicy for ya

[Chorus]

[Lil Wayne]
I get her on top, she drop it like it's hot
And when I'm at the bottom, she Hillary Rodham
The middle of the bed, I'm givin, getting head
I'm givin, getting head, I'm givin, getting head
I said, I like that - 3X
Ooohh
Call me so I can come and do it for ya
Call me so I can come and prove it for ya
Call me so I can make it juicy for ya
Call me so I can get it juicy for ya

[Outro: Lil Wayne] + [Static Major]
Shawty wanna lick me [like a lollipop]
Hahah [lick me like a lollipop]
[She lick me like a lollipop, lollipop]
Say he so sweet, make you wanna lick the rapper
So I let her lick the rapper

Now, what I´d like to know is.....WHY DO PEOPLE LIKE THIS KIND OF CRAP ?

Soulja Boy, Flo Rida, T -Pain, Lil Wayne, all of this bullshit still sells like hotcakes...but why ? The beats are wack, the lyrics are sooo empty, and there are still great rappers out there who struggle to get a few bucks for their music. There are still rappers like Mos Def, Nas, Kid Cudi, etc etc etc.

Why do people even like Soulja Boy and Lil Wayne?

That Lil Wayne song (Lollipop) was HUGE last year. Monster hit. I'll admit I quite like the...atmosphere of the song, but yeah, the lyrics always got to me, as do any of Wayne's songs.

it's actually "he's so sweet, make her want to lick the wrapper....so I let her lick the rapper" yes, y'all Weezy is soooo clever. falloff

Why any of these no talent whores sell is beyond me. They all suck! But real talent like Talib Kweli, Lupe Fiasco, and all can't get air play. Basically it seems if you have any REAL talent you will not succeed. Hip hop/rap sounds like shit these days. It's so bad you got Game and Eminem going hard core on R&B divas. OOOOOH! bitchfight

Soulja Boy finally went gold on his first album? Because the last one was sinking in the charts fast and didnt go anything the last time I saw. Florida said he doesnt care if he was "selling out" as long as it put money in his pocket. Who cares about any of them?

Soulja Boy also posted a pic of himself wearing only his boxers. That is enough to increase his female AND gay audience.

Flo Rida never went that far (yet). But with some rappers on a DL, you're never know.
