I saw a Lil´Wayne video on TV the other day and I couldn´t believe how bad and simplistic the lyrics were. He was standing on a car, riding through Las Vegas at night, pretending to play guitar and kept mumbling something about "Shawty wanna hug, Shawty wanna thug, bottles in tha club...bottles in tha club." blah blah blah.....the song had barely any lyrics at all, he was just mumbling some random shit all the time and his people were having a party.

The beat was VERY simplistic.

The whole thing was sooooo corny and bad ( bad not meaning good that I had to google the lyrics because I couldn´t believe how poor the whole song was...the lyrics were...well, not really lyrics, just some random shit .)

Now, what I´d like to know is.....WHY DO PEOPLE LIKE THIS KIND OF CRAP ?

Soulja Boy, Flo Rida, T -Pain, Lil Wayne, all of this bullshit still sells like hotcakes...but why ? The beats are wack, the lyrics are sooo empty, and there are still great rappers out there who struggle to get a few bucks for their music. There are still rappers like Mos Def, Nas, Kid Cudi, etc etc etc.

Platinum status and record sells mean nothing. The example I always use is that LL Cool J went double platinum with 'Bad' back in the day, while Eric B and Rakim's 'Paid In Full' were released at the same time, and they only went gold I believe.

Fast forward to today, and nobody really talks about 'Bad' but 'Paid In Full' is regarded by many as the greatest Hip-Hop album ever. So you can't judge someones work by how many units it sells. Hell, Canibus may be viewed as the greatest lyricist ever in 2109, , time will tell the final story.
