O'JAYS VS. THE BROS. JOHNSHON

THE CATEGORIES ARE STYLE, SWAGGER, LYRICAL CONTENT, MUSICAL COMPOSITION, VOCALS, ABILITY TO CROSS RACIAL BOUNDARIES, STAGE PRESENCE AND OVERALL BADASSEDNESS!! TOUGH ONE I KNOW.

THE WINNER IMO. THEY ARE SEXIER AND ARE BONAFIDE MUSICIANS.

biggrin

Nah, I say the O'Jays, the Brothers Johnson were cool but the O'Jays were the overall package even with "Brandy" and "Love Train". lol

y'all need to quit. lol

but i should have put the Spinners up against the O'Jays. Bros. Johnson still kicks ass. they had melody, funk, and disco wrapped up in sexiness.

consider

I'll Be Good to You
Strawberry letter 23
Get the Funk Outta Ma Face.

Come On!!!!! These dudes were the shiznit!!!!

I like the O'Jays but only like 3 songs did it for me. The one I posted and Forever Mine as well as For the Love of Money. The rest be aiight!!

they are both 70s funk. that's common enough. they've both had dance tracks and love songs.

Not sure but I don't think the Ojays played instruments like the Brothers Johnson. Eh so the O'Jays got inducted into the R&R hall of fame big whoop. lol

That's why it's an unfair comparison. It's alright that you don't dig the O'Jays but they're in the Hall of Fame for good reasons. wink

I object!!!

There's no comparison! O'Jays are Philly soul not funk at all! You can compare them to all the "The's" lol like The Spinners

and The Brothers Johnson vs. Con Funk Shun would be more fair
Though I would go with Con Funk Shun

cool

Also the Ojays are known as soul singers, (remember that genre) moreso than funk artists. Everybody forgets that what we call soul music was actually a genre before they started lumping everything into the generic r&b category.

EXACTLY!

Soul music (1961-1985)... everything else after that was R&B/pop. nod True, some of the soul greats are still there. nod

And yeah Confunkshun would've been another great comparison to The Brothers Johnson. There were some funk elements in the O'Jays' music but they were SOUL! nod

Nah the O'Jay's aren't funky at all lol Just because most of their songs have a heavy bass doesn't mean they're Funk. Backstabbers is R&B/Philly soul. Philly soul has elements of Funk in it. nod
