TyphoonTip said: I'll buy them, if I'm happy with them. But as I've said before, I've been burned before with remasters (even after positive reviews!).
So some 'try before I buy' action is what is needed. Good to see I'm not the only one who's a little wary of how these remasters will turn out. Having said that, I am ashamed of my record collection when I see how many Beatles albums I am missing - so whilst I won't be investing in the box set (mono or stereo) I WILL have to get round to purchasing the likes of Help!, Magical Mystery Tour, Let It Be, A Hard Day's Night and so on, sooner rather than later. That's the other thing. I bought ALL the Beatles albums when I was 17-18 years old (I had copied tapes before that!), They take pride of place in my CD collection. What do I do with them IF I buy that box? I feel like I'm cheating on them. They've served me well and brought me nothing but pleasure!

japanese version is over 600 bucks!!!!! dayum! Still waiting to see which store will have it for the cheapest price (Best Buy? Wal Mart? Target?). Meijer listed the remasters as costing only $9.99 each (probably only for singles discs and it only listed "Revolver", "Abbey Road", and two others)...how does the box set compare?

Okay... I think I've heard the remastered White Album now.
Aside from being louder and having slightly more punch to the bass, there's really not much difference. Reading all the reviews, I was expecting something akin to The Second Coming. I'm completely underwhelmed. If you've ever tweaked an album using Audacity (to normalise the peak loudness to 96 dB and lift the bass) you could create a similar "remaster" yourself. Maybe the difference on the older albums is more dramatic - I don't know. But on the evidence of The White Album, it's more like adding a new coat of varnish over old paintwork. Maybe I've been hoodwinked and the leak I've heard is an amateur remaster? The timings are a little different - some tracks lose a second, whilst others gain a second. 'Good Night' has an extra four seconds of silence at its fade. For all I know, it could be that EMI are flooding the net with intervention files, to confuse P2P users. I don't know if I'm willing to buy a couple of the albums next week, as I'd planned to. I think I'll wait until somebody I know has an actual shop-bought CD in their hands that I can listen to first.

I've seen the leaks of the stereo versions; I'm hoping mono leaks soon. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

Something to note:
If you buy the mono box, you'll get the new songs from Yellow Submarine ("Only a Northern Song," "All Together Now," "Hey Bulldog," and "It's All Too Much") on Mono Masters, but you won't get "The Ballad of John & Yoko," "Old Brown Shoe," or "Let It Be" (single version) because they weren't mixed in mono. That means the mono-only people have to buy Abbey Road, Let It Be, and Past Masters Vol. 2 to complete the collection. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

Another reason why I'm getting the stereo box set.I want all of the albums together, without having to go back and buy a few more.

I Wonder how well these will stack up against the current releases?
Sometimes remasters are overly done and ruin the album Sgt. peppers, White, Help, Please Please Me sound excellent! Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

I've already deleted the stuff I downloaded. It was so underwhelming, I'm convinced it was fake.

Seems like Meijer is the only store selling them for $9.99 (well, they only picture four of them so I know that won't include "The White Album" and if available, "Past Masters"). I'll pick up a few of them but not all. Just not that big of a fan, especially of the early stuff.

Having listened to some of the leaks, I'm going to buy mono if I can find it (and the stereo-only albums, of course). I might have to get both versions of Rubber Soul. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis
