Most people will get the stereo set. As the article said, "The mono box collection was made with collectors in mind." SoulAlive said: Did anyone pre-order it yet? Or are you guys gonna buy it at a store on the day of release?
I pre-ordered on August 7.

Especially if you're on a decent stereo system, by all accounts the mono thumps harder and were the mixes that the beatles themselves pushed the engineers to new ground when creating them. None of the boys even bothered to go to the stereo mix sessions. That's how much they cared for them. It's an easy decision for me Music, sweet music, I wish I could caress and...kiss, kiss...

I pre-ordered on August 7. I'm tempted to pre-order it now,but I have a feeling that I will find it cheaper at places like Best Buy,Wal-Mart or Target (if they carry it) on the day of release.Gonna wait and see how much it will be going for at these places.

That might be wise - especially with the holidays coming up, you know there will be sales. The reason I pre-ordered was that I was able to wangle a 25% discount with no shipping charges - I figured that's about as good as it will get.

Bob Gendron at ToneAudio has heard the CDs in both box sets, and has written the first (I think) review.
Capitol’s long-awaited remasters of the Fab Four’s albums sound, as a whole, uniformly fantastic. It’s clear that the team of engineers responsible for the four-year project ensured that the world’s most important and famous pop catalog finally received the care it’s always deserved...

http://www.tonepublicatio...-and-mono/ Excellent review!! But it's got me wondering which box set I should get Stereo or mono? Damn, this is a tough decision!

Despite all the positive reviews these remasters are receiving, remastering of past greats in the last 15 or so years, hasn't necessarily meant a 'better' listening experience. For those inclined to cynicism, they may have been nothing more than marketing techniques to get fans to repurchase catalogues.
To put it simply, after being burned before, I think I may employ a little 'try before I buy' action.

To put it simply, after being burned before, I think I may employ a little 'try before I buy' action. Totally agree with you that "remastering" has often been detrimental to the music in recent years, and that has everything to do with brick wall limiting and hefty EQ making the sound more brash and in your face! However I have alot of faith that these Beatles remasters are the real deal and have been done justice, from what I know of the team of engineers working on them and their stated objectives which have been quoted in the press. I disagree... some of my favorite albums have been remastered and sound much better than they originally did. Remasters by The Cure, Pet Shop Boys, Siouxsie & The Banshees, Bob Dylan, Eurythmics have all been stellar. Thomas Dolby recently released his first 2 albums in remastered form and they sound amazing. Also the deluxe reissues frequently include tons of bonus material. Tears for Fears "Songs from the Big Chair" deluxe reissue and it's bonus disc are amazing. * * *

People are beginning to report that some major on-line retailers (Amazon, Tower, etc.) are out of the mono set. You can still grab them here, for now (though I know nothing of these retailers, and am not endorsing them - just trying to help people find a mono set, if they want one): http://www.findersrecords...ffnr=-2110 http://www.silverdisc.com...9996994512 But, look around; they may pop up again just before the release date - who knows?

I will admit these reviews have made me rethink my desire for the stereo box set, but it's painfully obvious they should've included both mixes in the box set (at the very least). I caved and preordered the mono box today directly from Apple (and paid more money ) after seeing it sold out everywhere else online. I didn't want to take the chance of not finding it the day of release because Beatles fans snatched them all up five minutes after stores opened their doors.

It's the mono box set which is limited. I'm sure they'll sell the mono albums individually at a later date. They'd be mad not to.

There's another review, from Uncut Magazine.
The key word is clarity. Not loudness. Clarity.
The voices and instruments are crystal clear, pure, human, natural and stripped of several decades’ worth of detritus and dust. http://www.uncut.co.uk/ne...news/13552
