You make a good point. Sure, the whispering has gotten bad, but she has released some good songs on her last few projects. My issue is not the music so much, but the fact that people blame Janet for changing the media laws. Hell, they tried to fine her for every affiliate in the US that aired the Superbowl that year. That's straight up crazy as hell. To make it worse, she issued apologies and statements, yet mainstream radio and television have just ignored the girl. To be honest, there is no reason why "Rock Wit U", "Luv" and "Enjoy" shouldn't have been big hits. It was all because of the backlash. As much as like Janet, that entire incident could have been avoided has she just said, "No, Justin". For those of you who think that Justin is the ONLY one to blame, you all are sadly mistaken. She was just as responsible for what happened as much as he was. To this day, I think she went along with it, knowing what was going to happen. It was done to give her career a kick and to place not only her music on the charts, but her name in the news again. Everyone makes mistakes.
Janet has learned, and has moved on. There are a thousand worse things out there than that one incident. Anyways regarding Janet's music, I think its gone downhill after Velvet Rope. I didn't even care about All 4 You. She needs to reinvent herself a bit. She's been in the industry for a long time, and looks tacky trying to keep up with the other female singers out there. Go do your own thing Janet. Show the same spirit you did during Rhythm Nation, Control, Janet, and Velvet Rope [Edited 8/5/09 18:04pm]

Yeah Damita Jo and All for You. I've learned to appreciate All for You ballads-wise. Musically that was some ethereal shit.

As a Janet fan, I must agree with this statement Janet is legendary. Janet is an Icon and needs to realize the these new girls need to get where she is, not her compete down I hope this time out, she takes chances (as she did with Velvet Rope at the time), re invent, and create good music without caring about album sales or the Beyonce's and Britney's (love them both) of today. She definatel has a lot of emotions to draw from (loss of her brother to her break up) "POOR IS THE MAN WHO'S PLEASURES DEPEND ON THE PERMISSION OF ANOTHER" Madonna

The Velvet Rope, though not her biggest seller (though it sold. extremely well) was her most personal artistic cd to date. "POOR IS THE MAN WHO'S PLEASURES DEPEND ON THE PERMISSION OF ANOTHER" Madonna

What I notice a lot about the older singers like Mariah, Madonna, and Janet, is that none of their new stuff sounds as good as the earlier stuff. Maybe they're feeling the heat amongst the new singers

I was under the impression that she jam & lewis were busy working their ass off on this new project and sources say its a smoker.....I heard DANCE is the word most referenced.....So watch out people.....She's hungry. I wish her luck in an already lengthy star studded career.....LEGENDARY ICON.

I have the same top 4 as you do, but in a different order: 1. Rhythm Nation 2. Control 3. Janet 4. The Velvet Rope There are songs I love on every album (even 20 Y.O.), but the other albums aren't as consistent. One of her most underrated songs, sadly relegated to b-side status: "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

I'm not saying she wasn't guilty, but JT's career continues to thrive, while the mainstream press and media ripped the poor girl to shreads. If the blame had been distributed equally, then I don't think it would have been such a division. Maybe if she would put out music that not only people could understand, but dance to, instead of that whispering, Helen Keller shit, she would get the respect that she so desperately wants and the media would not of ripped her to shreds.
