I truly believe had it not been for that SuperBowl incident DJ,20 Y.O. and Discipline would have been well received...Ms Jackson was a Beast at one time and i for one is hoping she finds that hunger again... I'm rooting for her..

DJ might have been received slightly better, but it's just not very good. too much vagina-pondering and we'd heard that over and over from her by that time. it might have sold better, but it wouldn't have made the album any better. 20 Y.O. wouldn't have even happened without the backlash and low sales from DJ. and it's a steaming pile no matter how you look at it. I really like Discipline. it was very poorly promoted by Janet and the label, though. throwing 3 or 4 singles against the wall within about a month to see what sticks, then nothing. then doing very few interviews and basically saying "I don't want to talk about that" as a response to every question, then the aborted half-assed attempt at a tour.

she just needs to get her head back in the game.

Janet announced that her new album will be released in the first quarter of 2010!

I wonder when the movie will be done and when writing the album starts?

Janet and Jimmy Jam have been talking about the new album for a while. I assume she's working on it now as she is filming. They started talking about a new project after the 2nd or 3rd single from Discipline dropped (before and during the tour).

Movie is done. Album is already being recorded.

She is going with a major label - not going independent. She means business.

Did the movie recently wrap? I know they say she was filming when Mike died.

I don't think people care about her embracing sexuality. Me, personally, I'm just tired of the same concept for all of her recent albums. Be creative at least! The last album that I liked that had a good theme is "Damita Jo". It was more about finding herself as a woman.

Especially DJ. I have been listening to that album more over the last 2 years. It really was ahead of its time in production and writing style (for modern r&b). If you listen to songs like "My Baby" and "Island Life", almost all of the new r&b that's getting played on radio today sounds like that.

I agree with that. I think Janet needs to take a few lessons from Prince (I don't mean everything, but some). She needs to realize that she's not going to sell millions anymore because of the way the industry is today. She just needs to make a solid album, do a mid-sized venue tour to build her momentum back up, fire Gil and work with someone like Tina Landon again that knows how to showcase her on stage and promote the album properly. She should do a few late night shows and avoid a lot of the interviews. I think that the interviews have really been killing the last few promotions. Everyone keeps bringing up the Superbowl and now they will bring up MJ and the Superbowl. If she avoids interviews and just performs, she can have a hit. Hell, maybe an exclusive cd at Target will work?

I wish her well. I hate to say this, but the death of Michael certainly will kick her in the butt as far as having something to write about. There is so much going on in the world, I would be shocked if she made yet another soppy R&B album of sexual songs. I wish her well.

Info on new album and book posted on official website

The biography on Janet's newly launched official website contains some revealing information about three of Janet's upcoming projects, including an album and book in the works.

The website states:

Later this year, Janet will publish her first book, providing an intimate look at her life and how she has dealt with issues of self-esteem. Janet will reveal aspects not known before about her uniquely successful career not only in music but in television and motion pictures.

The next months and new year will also bring another film starring Janet as she joins Tyler Perry in his sequel, Why Did I Get Married Too, followed by a new album slated to released during the first quarter of 2010.

Earlier this year, Jimmy Jam gave an interview during which he said that he was beginning to work on a new album for Janet.

In early 2008 while promoting Discipline, Janet said that she was going to publish a book later that year about issues dealing with her weight control, however nothing had come of that.

I think Damita Jo, 20 Y.O & Discipline were good albums, but I don't like Jermaine Dupri as a producer. His production on those albums (excluding Discipline) watered down Janets real talent. All Janet needs is a Rhythm Nation x100 album. I'm sure Jimmy and Terry can do that for her. Janet also needs to regain her love for performing again. Her performances from the last albums came off as lazy to me

I do not think the SB will be mentioned in Janet's interviews any more. Michael will be the #1 topic now.
