A few weeks ago, one of my students, whose parents are Jamaican, told me how her mother always tells her that if she could have done it all over she would have had her children with a light skinned man so that they would have been light with "good" hair. She also said that she tells her that she doesn't want any dark grandbabies. As a result her siblings have all had kids with light skinnned people. She said her aunt tells her cousins the same things, but she tells them to mate with white men so that they can have "pretty" kids.

When I hear shit like that, I want to do serious damage to the person saying it, man or woman. They're just as ignorant as some redneck. No excuse for that kind of thinking - whatever happened to "black is beautiful"?

I got news for these fools - doesn't matter how light/dark you are, we're all n the same boat. Don't believe me? Drive through certain neighborhoods and you'll get a dose of reality.

That's right! Being light skin may be a big deal to some black folks, but at the end of the day yo' ass is still black! And like you said, we're all in the same boat. Try telling the cops next time you get pulled over about how you have a white parent or grandparent -or whatever you're mixed with-, they don't care. You're still black to them no matter how light you are.

As for Lil Wayne, he's an ignorant fool. I think people who are color struck are very sad and pathetic personally.

I have never really understood why people have a problem with colour. I think we should erase this so called barrier between us. Black, white, yellow, red whatever does not make a difference, it's our character/ideas/feelings which set us apart.

For my final paper in English, i could choose whatever subject i liked and i chose one connected to the African-American people overcoming slavery, then segregation through music.I thought it would be thought-provoking and my teachers would like it, but they weren't that interested in it. One of them even asked me "so u like black artists, huh?"confused. they seemed more attracted to simpler subjects like cars. i was angry then, because i was talking about real issues and real artists like Stevie Wonder, James Brown, Sam Cooke etc and about Motown, Stax or Chess Records which had an impact on music and also,on people's destiny.

whereas beauty is concerned, i believe all races are beautiful. and anyone who tries to discredit one or the other should be ignored and not taken seriously.

and i think "dark skinned" guys look better than "white" ones biggrin and i'm white.
