Now i'll admit I utilized the services of 2 Guitar Gear Guru friends of mine who are experts on American/Japanese manufacturers prior to both purchases. There were also pretty intense conversations with both sellers. Once I discovered what it would cost to replace my Fender Hendrix Tribute Strat (no longer made)... ...I went on a quest to find a comparable instrument to use and leave the Tribute safely at home. My friends schooled me on 2 specific factories in Japan (Fuji-gen & Matsumoku) that made high quality guitars for various name brand manufacturers in the early to mid 80s (very important time frame). The first was a mid-80s Fender Squire... ...made at the Fuji-gen plant. The second was an early 80s Aria Pro II, PE-175 Herb Ellis Model... ...made at the Matsumoku plant. Both instruments arrived in tip-top shape and were acquired for less that $400 each. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. First of all, the thread title is misleading. It should be" Question for BASSS players". I am a bassist, and there is a big difference between guitards who play bass, and bass players.
I have played both Ibanez and dean, and they are both good basses. I would strongly suggest going to the store and trying them out, to see which feels right. It is so individualized, it is hard to give good advice on what to get, because people have different preferences on sound and feel. I currently have a Dean 5 string, which I love. Also, do you want a bass with active pickups or passive? Active requires 9 volt batteries, and sound "brighter" if you will. I'd recommend active pickups if you do a lot of funk/slap playing. Passive pickups normally have a "warmer" sound, and is good for jazz, rock & roll, etc.

I have zero idea what you are talking about.

I see where you're going, friend, but I disagree. I play primarily the guitar, but my approach to the bass (which I've been playing almost as long) is bass-specific, not as an extension of my guitar love. Read my earlier response and yours. They're pretty close, aren't they?

I wanna thank you guys for all your help ans much love to TD3. I had gotten an Ibanez FM200 model. It was very nice with active pickups. But, when I went back to get an amp and a strap, etc., they had a very nice lefty Fender Jazz. So I got it.

That's hot!
The Bass is nice too. Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it. |
