Naw, i wish ! lol Those issues were recently auctioned at ebay. I'd really like to see and read those close-up articles about Cameo and Patrice Rushen, in the September issue on the left.
And sometimes there are great color-photos inside. That insert one of Latoya on the scan from Soulalive's first post is a session from which "Right On" once published a full-paged color-pic which looks awesome.

An R&B band that came out in late 1983.Their big hit was "Can You Treat Me Like She Does?",produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis.Got alot of airplay on R&B radio in late '83.

My favorite section in Black Beat was the album reviews.The writers were very honest and told it like it is! If an album was crap,they would say it.Many of the reviews were written by the editor,Steve Ivory....a no-nonsense,opinionated guy.I still remember some of the "interesting" things he said in his reviews....

Reviewing the Jill Jones album,he wrote...

What makes this album so interesting is that Jill,like other Prince proteges,gets all the material that Prince thinks he is 'above' at this point in his career.Fact is,his unbalanced 'Sign O The Times' album could have used something as percolating and sassy as "For Love",or the relentless "All Day/All Night"...
