My favorite section in Black Beat was the album reviews.The writers were very honest and told it like it is! If an album was crap,they would say it.Many of the reviews were written by the editor,Steve Ivory....a no-nonsense,opinionated guy.I still remember some of the "interesting" things he said in his reviews....
Reviewing the Jill Jones album,he wrote... What makes this album so interesting is that Jill,like other Prince proteges,gets all the material that Prince thinks he is 'above' at this point in his career.Fact is,his unbalanced 'Sign O The Times' album could have used something as percolating and sassy as "For Love",or the relentless "All Day/All Night"... | |
