A-ha launch album in the Uk with exclusive iTunes festival gig A-ha launched their new album "Foot of the mountain" in the UK with an intimate VIP gig in the 160 year old Roundhouse, Camden London last night. It was part of the iTunes festival London.
They were due to play for exactly one hour, but the band couldn’t resist playing on another 20 minutes. I have seen them on every tour of their career but I would say this was one of the best performances I have witnessed. The venue is an old Victorian railway shed, converted and restored to a music venue. The sound was excellent and A-ha made full use of the great acoustics. Highlights included the best rendition of Manhattan Skyline I have heard to date (including Morten with a megaphone to create the distorted voice parts), a brilliant acoustic duo of Hunting High and Low and Summer Moved On, and a banging rendition of new track The Bandstand. Best performance of the evening was a tie between Foot of The Mountain and a full band version of Stay on these roads. The set list was: The sun always shines on TV Riding the crest Cry Wolf (extended) Scoundrel Days The bandstand Stay on these roads Hunting high and low (acoustic) Summer moved on (acoustic) Manhattan Skyline Foot of the mountain Analogue The living daylights Take on me I had a quick word with the band after the show and they said they are really tired due to the amount of promotion they are doing. They had just filmed a performance of Foot of the mountain and Sun always shines of TV for the Jonathon Ross TV show, and they were going to be doing an acoustic set and album signing at a shopping centre on Tuesday. I agreed to see them there, but I don’t think they are going to agree to slip Waiting for Her or Mother Nature goes to heaven in there for me! .

In an interview with MAGS a day or two before he spoke about this year, and said they were touring the UK, Norway,Germany and Russia, and in 2010 were going to do Japan Austrailia and THE USA for the first time since 1986 (except for a one off NYC show in 2005) "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

But never say never. It only take one song to make it happen, as they found out in 85. .

And it would conincide with the 25th anniversary of "take on me" in the USA, so that is what im sure they are going for, or at least the way Universal plans to go about it. Lets remember that they still technically have no distribution in the USA, though as Mags said "our records still get around quite a bit in america now" "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

Yeah just caught the article from the interview, they basically are doing the world in 2010, literally the WORLD, and planning a 25th re-issue of "hunting high and low", my guess is that they most likely wont have a record released in the states just the reissue, but i dont really care since i have had to buy them as imports since 1992 when WB released them from their USA deal. But they are planning quite a few shows in 2009, they just added a bunch in Germany and Berlin and are planning Norway and Russia and the UK, then in 2010 hitting Japan,Australia, the US, and back overseas AGAIN! I think there will be something in the re-release of HHAL. Maybe like how Alanis Morrisette re-recorded an acoustic version of Jagged Little Pill for the 10th anniversary.
How about a full orchestral re-recording of Hunting High & Low as a second disc along with an expanded remaster??? I'm hoping to much aren't I!?! .

Glad to see tracks from Scoundrel Days still in the set-list. It's one of the great overlooked albums of the 80's in my opinion. * * *

Honestly you arent hoping for alot, a-Ha have ALOT of pride and ego and they arent going to go out there and play like a "novelity" they are into recrafting these songs that they have been doing for two plus decades, back during the Analogue promotion MAGS said they were looking into doing a cd of re-works of their 80's songs, this came up when "stay on these roads" was played with a full band, amazing, if anyone wants to know where Coldplay,Radiohead and others get sounds from, listen to that full band version "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

When they played here in NYC in 2005 for one-nite, they opened with "Scoundrel Days" the crowd sang it WORD FOR WORD, not a bad for a band that "no one knows" "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F
