exactly. I'm a new Kanye fan, since April 2009, his music blew me away. There IS quality to it. And as you said, in his music, in his interviews he shows his insecurities. He doesn't pretend to be the hottest, richest or whatever guy he admits he's vein, which is due to certain insecruties, that he misses his mother, that he feels sad from times to times, that South Park hurt him a bit...

And what's really unfair is, that in here people always claimed all the MJ stories to be fake, because they were just dumb. With kanye, people don't give him a thought or the chance to admit that he gets his fake stories as well.

KW def tries to make good music and if he sometimes appears to be cocky, so what...

I prefer him a 100000 zillion times over 50 Cent.

Kanye says...

“You know everyone loves and respects Michael but times change. It’s so sad to see Michael gone but it makes a path for a new King of Pop and I’m willing to take that on. There’s nobody who can match me in sales and in respect so it only makes sense for me to take over Michael’s crown and become the new King. First there was Elvis, then there was Michael, now in the 21st century its Kanye’s time to rule. I have nothing but respect for Michael but someone needs to pick up where he left off and there’s nobody better than me to do that. I am the new King of Pop.

Just maybe, he can pull it off!

Kanye never said he was the New King of Pop

While known for his outspoken quotes, West vehemently denied the reports on his website kanyeuniversity.com.

“I was just listening to Wendy Williams and heard some quote about me saying I’m the new King of Pop. Not only did I not say that, I haven’t said anything,” Kanye explained. “It makes me feel bad that obviously I made people feel that I would be corny enough to say something wack after the passing of an idol, a legend and more than that, a human being with feelings and family.”

West further argued that actions like this have made him step back from the spotlight, and it would be the final time he addresses false accusations made against him. Additionally, he alluded to media lies as one of main contributing factors to Michael Jackson’s passing.

“It scares me to think what people will believe, without even a source. Any random person can type something on the internet and then the world believes it,” Kanye stated. “I don’t talk to press or do TV or do promotions of any sort. I’ve stopped chasing and buying into fame. Fame is like cigarettes with no surgeon general warning. It destroys most people as it did to the truly and only King of Pop. We exploit ourselves and eat our own egos until there is nothing left. I have a feeling this won’t be the last false statement with my name on it, but this will be the last time I defend myself. I’m done.”

A longtime Jackson fan, Kanye West famously sampled the late King of Pop’s “P.Y.T.” on “Good Life,” the popular single from his multi-platinum LP Graduation.

Listen, I'm not trying to insult you, but you are young. Artist like Kanye come and go, but musicians/entertainers go on and on. Kanye isn't cleva and his music will be a by word in the years to come. I don't want to go on a "rap isn't music rant", but his raps are so lame that they don't make any sense. Sorry, but you mark my words, in the years to come NO ONE will remember KW unless he stops "half-assing" it. Listen, the rappers have filled a niche for a short period of time, but I'm sorry to say for rap enthusiast, real music is making a comeback. Even Jay-Z is trying to re-invent himself to keep his "paper" coming in. Even "The Roots" realize that you have to have real music to get the crowd going and their music is much more intelligent than Kanye's raps.

I'm not a musician, but I know what I like. People remember "real music" and not rap rhymes. Wait a minute, I take that back, I love "Rapper's Delight", but I digress.

People remember timeless/ageless music from different genres. This is the reason why people will remember: Charlie Parker, Chaka Khan, Dave Brubeck, Sergio Mendes, Santana, Dinah Washington, Lady Day, Motown, Minnie Riperton, DeBarge, Sly and the Family Stone, Chicago, Take 6, Prince, Miles, Michael Jackson, Dizzy Gillespie, Jimi Hendrix, Joni Mitchell, etc. These are real talented musicians who have created timeless music.

People love Michael because although you didn't see him playing an instrument, he had the ability to entertain everyone and and his music was good. Kanye just doesn't have the full package because he "lucked" into a career in music. He was just at the right place at the right time. nodnod cool

Listen, if Kanye didn't make the statement, Cool. However, with Kanye, he has said so much crazy stuff that this would definitely be a believable statement coming from him... lol lol

I am young, and that's why I can tell that following artists you named (bolt ones) might have relevance for you, or had have in in the past but not today. In fact almost none of the people you named is still of relevance, and how long was Prince part of the pop culture (not just an upcoming talent or legend)? I'd say for 5 years. Let's give KW some time, then we can judge.
But he already changed a few things, he's an hipster no gangsta, he's part of the new understanding of hip-hop.
