Funk soldiers--I need help with Cameo!

I know I might lose my funk card for this, but is what is the best starting point for me getting into Cameo? I just need a comp or album that can introduce me to the band's talent and I mean, way before Candy and Word Up!. Can anyone help me please?

If you want to start off with a compilation, you could go with this one,

If you want to start with actual albums, I suggest going for Cardiac Arrest, Ugly Ego and Cameosis

Hope that helps smile

Agreed on Gold (it was previously released as the 2-disc Anthology)

Album-wise, I think Cameosis might be the best start if you don't plan to start at the very beginning.

Personally I'd say Cameosis but any pick out of the Casablanca period could be a good starter album.

Cameosis is a good place to start, but you should get the album that came before that one for the full intro to Cameo "Secret Omen", that's the album with "I Just Want To Be" on it. It's the perfect album to show you what Cameo's sound was like in the late 70's, while giving you a preview what was to come in the early 80's IMO.
