That's what I'm saying. Maxwell finally got it together, though, so maybe there's hope for D after all?"Be glad for what you had baby, what you've got..."

THAT^ is the real reason why he never release new music for the last 10+ years. End of. You're right as far as D not being on the same level as Prince, However the music Prince has put out in the last 10 have not been all that either. IMO I think both "BrownSugar'& "Voodoo" are both better than anything Prince has put out in a long time. Tracks like "The Root" "Higher" Send It On" have Prince written all over it. Vocally he's doing Prince better than Prince! I'm not sure as to what he'd sound like now with all the problems drugs etc. I see how much it has effected Whitney vocally. Last time I heard from him was on the track "I'll Stay" from the Roy Hargrove cd. It didn't sound like the D'angelo of ol. Maybe it was just the song (a parliment funk song) After seeing Maxwell back I'm really rooting for this guy. I don't like to count anyone out. you never know what's in someones future.

I'll be ready whenever it comes out. His track record isn't long, but it's damn sure impressive. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

And the church says AMEN!!!! That's no lie at all. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

So, what did really happen between him and Angie? "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

Check out the song "I'm Okay" on the new Chico Debarge cd.
Sounds just like D'angelo. Nice...very nice track.

I think the Untitled video was just a video. Unfortunately, he became more known for looking like the guy in Untitled than for any of his actual music. So at concerts, I'm sure he wanted to be taken seriously or rather appreciated for his musical talent, but instead got painted into a corner of being the Untitled guy.
I remember reading something from ?uestlove a few months ago talking about how he had to literally push D'angelo on stage every night. D'Angelo was having panic attacks, saying he can't go on, etc etc all because of the weird version of fame he achieved via Untitled.

In a 2007 inteview Angie maintained that he no longer wanted to be with her once he had a hit single ("Brown Sugar").

Really? Cause I heard he hit her. "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

She didn't say anything about physical abuse in the interview.

I could have sworn I read somewhere he hit her "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

Maybe he became known as the untitled guy for people who aren't really interested in music. But from what I got from a lot of musicians, from fans at his shows, is that they could give a rat's behind about that video. Of course you would have the fools that would rip his clothes and bust up his lips with their Lee Press On Nails ( I was at that infamous show when the big mamas got ahold of him during a stage dive and bloodied him up in their excitement), but the overall vibe I always got towards him was one of massive respect and people who loved to dance til their feet hurt at his concerts. There are just certain artists whose shows you go to knowing that you are going to be dancing till your clothes are soaked, D'angelo used to be one of them. That's why I lurv-ed that brotha. Fuck a Untitled [Edited 8/14/09 16:32pm]

I remember watching an old interview of his on TV - it was done by MuchMusic sometime after the release of his first record. I taped the piece because I was interested in the guy, but I have to say that at first he just came off terribly uneducated or just plain dumb. That was mainly because he constantly used the words "you know" while speaking. In fact, he manaeged to use the words "you know" about 20 times within just two sentences. I'm not kidding at all, because I counted them. It just stuck to my mind.
Now I realize in retrospect that he might have been just extremely nervous during that whole thing.

A friend of mine met him when he was recording Brown Sugar. Said he was nice as could be, but country and not very well educated. "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

Well, there's a noticeable level of sophistication in his music. [Edited 8/14/09 13:07pm]
