This Woman's Work Kate Bush
or Maxwell My vote will always be for Kate's. It puts tears in my eyes. I liked Maxwell's a lot better (never better than Kate's) before my hubby ruined it by telling me he sounds like in it. Now that's all I hear.

I loooove Kate Bush's version of this song too, it is sooo much better than Maxwell's version. There is something about this song: the music, and the way Kate sings it with so much passion in her voice. This song makes me cry too, I love it!!!!! I don't like Maxwell's version at all, his voice is too squeaky and irritating.
True story: My hairdresser and I were discussing this song, and my hairdresser said that she liked Maxwell's version of this song, but she had never heard Kate's version. I burned Kate's version of this song onto a CD, and gave it to her so she could listen to it. I told her, "This song will make you cry." The next time I got my hair cut, I asked her what she thought of Kate's version of the song, and she told me that she still liked Maxwell's version better than Kate's! I wanted to say, "Are you serious?! Kate's version is a lot better than Maxwell's could ever hope to be!" [Edited 7/26/09 22:50pm] RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Maxwell's live Unplugged version by miles... the version he did on 3rd album wasn't good, but I don't like Kate's either. Her voice doesn't caress my ear the way it should

Kate Bush keeps growing on me.
Aerial deserved more attention than it received in the music world, and remains one of my favorite double-albums by any artist to date. Great thread.

there's NO comparison
dude turned it into some kinda R&B shit he completely misses the point besides , he can't convey the emotions as they were intended because he's a man

He completely misses the point, and turns a very open, hearth-wrenching piece of work into a stylized vocal exorcise. The Kate Bush version is superior. I'd love to see that song covered by a folk artist like Ani Defranco or Tracy Chapman though, Chapman probably the only artist I think who can take a song like that and make it bleed even more.

[Edited 7/26/09 22:50pm] Your hairdresser BETTER give good cuts then because they're WRONG "...and If all of this Love Talk ends with Prince getting married to someone other than me, all I would like to do is give Prince a life size Purple Fabric Cloud Guitar that I made from a vintage bedspread that I used as a Christmas Tree Skirt." Kate Bush. NO comparison at all. I adore Kate, she's my 2nd fave singer of all time and in my estimation, the greatest female singer/songwriter Britain ever had. This Post is produced, arranged, composed and performed by WetDream

Agreed. Although the original is still worth its weight in gold. I always thought this song was about a miscarriage. Am I only one that gets that from the lyrics?

Without QUESTION: Kate Bush.
I very rarely listen to it because it's such a thing of beauty, I never want to tire of it. And it's emotionally exhausting. Just an amazing, amazing track.

IMO - Maxwell is trying very hard to be "soulful" and honest. While Kate, just is.
