I have to get rid of this:

I think this is the first time I have posted in this forum, but I just want to shout out loud how GREAT this tune is. This is real, good and soulful black music.

I first heard this song as a part of the soundtrack while watching Shark Tale lol. It was a cover by Mary J Blige and Will Smith. I repeatedly watched that scene just because of the music. It has that great late-night smooth funk-soul sound that I so adore. However, I couldn't find the cover version of this song, although I would like to have both. sad Still, the original is masterclass.

Can the ones who remember it from the time it came out or shortly after that please tell me about it a bit? Was it commercially successful? How did "people" feel about her, this song etc. ?

Thank you! biggrin

Don't make fun of me! cry pout

Is it just because I'm too old to watch Shark Tale and too young to have experienced this song when it came out?

It was hugely popular. Her best selling song. You should youtube her performance on Soul Train. The audience absolutely loved it.

This happens to be my ALL TIME favorite song!
I will stop whatever I'm doing to jam to this one! music

I love Cheryl Lynn! IMO, female singers just don't have voices like this anymore! pout

"Love Hurts.
Your lies, they cut me.
Now your words don't mean a thing.
I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..."

A friend of mine told me every black man is born knowing this song. confuse lol

It's a classic. nod

Funny that Mary J Blige covered it, when she made her debut singing the hook for "I'll Do 4 U" by Father MC which sample-looped the Cheryl Lynn hit.

Mary's in this video:
