That's kind of the problem asking for the best of the year when it is July.

Seriously?

I personally think Christina is a phenomenal singer, but I haven't been terribly fond of her albums. Is the new really a 'must have' ?

I love her albums because her lyrics are good, her voice is amazing, and she always does something different. That's the one thing that Christina has done with every single album she's released. From her bubblegum pop debut, to 'Stripped', (which was hip-hop and rock oriented), to B2B (which had jazz and blues influence throughout), she's thrown something different on the table with each new release and I respect any artist who doesn't stick to the same formula album after album after album...boring. That's what I consider to be a talented artist when they step outside of their comfort zone and try different genres but that's just me.

Everyone keeps pointing out that since Christina's upcoming album is going to be a 'Lady Gaga experience' (whatever the hell that means rolleyes ) that makes it less than interesting for some reason. Seriously, Lady Gaga ain't really doing anything that hasn't already been done several times thoughout the years, so I really don't get all the hysterics surrounding her at the moment. shrug

Her 'sound' was being done throughout the 80s and early to mid 90s. It's called techno, house, electronica with some hip-hop/pop undertones. Ain't nothin' even remotely 'new' or 'innovative' about Lady Gaga that I can see, but she's amusing, writes her own material, plays instruments, and has a good voice. Bjork, Elton John, and Grace Jones were doing the outrageous costumes waay before the world even knew what a Lady Gaga was. I like some of her stuff but she's nothing to fall out over (JMHO). I'm anxious to see Christina do an electronic album because she's a vocalist and I love when techno/house DJs remix songs by vocalists like Mariah, Whitney, and Jennifer, so that's why I'm anticipating Chris's new album. Just my twocents smile

I do find all these lady gaga references with regards to Christina perplexing lol

I mean, aren't all the lady gagas, kylies, Madonnas, and Britneys of the world just really uninteresting photocopies of Blondie? lol

What single disk retail version?
Or do you mean out of the 3 disc set, you're only referring to that one specific CD?

yes, that's what i meant. only the lotus flower title disc, the one from
the retail release, with crimson and clover on it.

I mean, aren't all the lady gagas, kylies, Madonnas, and Britneys of the world just really uninteresting photocopies of Blondie? lol

lol Pretty much...or extremely poor knock-offs of Marilyn Monroe. I will never truly understand why some people go ape shit over things that have been done already. confuse I think all of these ladies have contributed some great things to the music listening public, but I'm not about to start screaming, crying, fainting, and acting a damn fool over any of them. Give me the original any day of the week over some weak, carbon copy, but that's just me.

Besides that bitchy comment that Christina made about Lady Gaga when a reporter asked Chrissy her opinion on Lady G, the only reasons I think that people are 'choosing' to compare the two is because:

1)they want to piss Christina off because they don't like her;

2)they are both platinum blondes (something that Christina has been since she was born....Lady Gaga is a brunette), and;

3)Christina has decided to make her newest album electronica-based which isn't something that should surprise anyone who knows anything about Christina's music. Like I originally posted, Christina has done a different genre on all of her albums, so I don't get why anyone is surprised. Besides, Lady Gaga doesn't hold the rights to the genre she's in. Lady Gaga is not the end-all, be-all of electronica, house, techno, dance, or new age disco (that's what I'm going to start calling it because 'dance pop' is a fuckin' stupid ass title hmph! ); she just an artist who emulates a sound that's been out for over 2 decades now, so why can't anyone else be allowed to do the same?

i think people would have let it slide when they heard the new songs from her greatest hits record and just chalked it up to "hmm, that sounds kinda like Lady Gaga, but that's just the hot new dance pop trend" ...

that is, if she hadn't just ripped off her entire look/style at the same time lol

You should get it for the sound quality. Rhino did a great job on this and it sounds much better than the old albums where the songs appear (Hatful of Hollow, The World Won't Listen)

Plus I was so happy when I opened it up to find a little cd replica of the Dutch 'Barbarism Begins At Home'
