That video always makes me chuckle lol Donna is a weird-looking teacher and mid-way thru, she changes clothes and puts on a GIGANTIC wig and starts dancing in the street, lol. It's awkward but alot of fun nonetheless.

Mercury Records was trying to get on the Musical Youth train at the time and Donna joined up. It was good enough to be a modest top 40 hit. biggrin

I think it's a good song...fun and catchy. In the early 80s,alot of artists were doing songs with a reggae/Carribean feel. This is one of the best.

Well, at least it is better than that song, "Heart don't lie", with Latoya...

I think "The Tide Is High" came out around, er, 1981-ish. I think Stevie Wonder was one of the first Western pop artists to do reggae ("Master Blaster"). Marvin did something reggae-lite with "Third World Girl".

The song is from Donna's 'She Works Hard For The Money' album. This album is one of the few times when all the right singles were released...

"She Works Hard For The Money"---the title track was a popular Top 10 smash for Donna,at a time when she really needed one.The video received MTV exposure and the song even reached Number One on the R&B charts.

"Unconditional Love"---The other most 'obvious' single on the album,it became a popular hit on the R&B charts.

"Love Has A Mind Of It's Own"---This one flopped as a single, but I still think it was a good choice. It's a beautiful ballad duet with Matthew Ward.Donna's ballads never got the attention they deserved (I thought "The Woman In Me",from her previous album, was gonna become a big hit).

Yeah, the video is a little strange lol It looks like she's a teacher in a school in England somewhere.I like how she abandons her job and decides to go dancing in the street, lol.

Billy Joel did it way before Stevie with a song called, "All she wants to do is dance, off of the "Turnstiles", album.

I sort of get it but the really odd elements are the explosion and for some reason showing the school marm Donna in the background near the end...makes little to no sense. She looks really great when she lets her hair...or wig...down.

As for choosing the right singles, I think "Stop, Look, Listen" had some slight hit potential and the most obvious third single choice to me was "I Do Believe In Fell In Love" (maybe with a slight remix). It could have been an old school R&B staple.

I think he did a better job than Stevie...It sounds like something out of studio one.
