REAL R&B/Soul Singers who can't catch a break in the 00's Here's some amazing acts who just can't get (or couldn't) a break in the hip-hop, no singing R&B world of new millenium music.
Freddie Jackson Alexander o'Neal Jeffrey Osborne Peabo Bryson Howard Hewett Peabo Bryson Omar Earth Wind & Fire Temptations Mica Paris Anthony Hamilton Kevon Edmonds These guys have either a. dropped bad albums (Freddie, Anthony Hamilton) b. tried to be too you and cool c. stopped trying or d. just can't get to the masses in spite of making a great record (EW&F). And I'm not even going to start on great acts who have dropped the ball by trying to be too contemporay (Isley Bros, as an example, have started following trends when they have always been the ones setting them). I know there's been the occasional real soul act break through in the past decade (Isleys, Luther have had sparodic chart success) but there's no real R&B/soul singers with chart runs anymore ...

As far as veterans, Charlie Wilson is doing pretty well.

Some of those on that list are actually doing shows and thats great. that means they're still getting work.Their target audience is big enough to do shows on the casino and oldhead circuit, but not big enough for a major label to sign them.

In these days and times, we better be lucky we still have them when we do. It's great to hear a new record from them every now and then.

Earth Wind and Fire haven't had a hit song in years, but they're still playing arenas. They do successful tours every year. Same with the Temptations.
